|Primary Function of Organizational Unit||
The 900+ positions of the Facilities Division service the students and staff of the University’s teaching, research/administrative space and 2, 240 acres of infrastructure. The Facilities Division provides design and building services, maintenance, custodial, landscape, solid waste removal, utility, mail, and motor pool services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The goal is to deliver cost effective services to the University, ensure completed projects and maintenance that conform to codes and regulations, while minimizing University liabilities and disruptions caused by the maintenance, repair, building, and equipment modifications to the University.
|Essential Job Duties||
The primary purpose of this position is the overall leadership and management for building system commissioning and retro-commissioning functions on Campus. Position will also supervise a team of technicians and will provide technical instruction and guidance to these technicians in performing building systems repairs
Commissioning is – A systematic process of ensuring that new building systems perform interactively according to the documented design intent and the owner’s operational needs, and that specified system documentation and training are provided the facility staff.
The program will include new buildings, building renovations, as well as periodic commissioning of existing buildings with a priority on high energy consuming facilities and lab buildings. This position leads, directs, and manages the commissioning program for the University. It includes managing consulting engineering, private commissioning firms, controls vendors in the performance of commissioning scopes, as well as leading an in house commissioning team in the performance of the work. This position requires close coordination with engineers, architects, and technical personnel in other Facilities Departments as well as outside design firms.
Bachelor’s Degree in the Engineering discipline related to the area of assignment and two years of related Engineering experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Architect Supervisor: Bachelor’s degree related to the area of assignment and two years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Licensed to practice architecture or landscape architecture by the North Carolina Board of Architecture or the North Carolina Board of Landscape Architects.
Note: This applies only to Facility Management jobs at the Contributing level: Graduation from a technical college with a major in Construction Management Technology, Architectural Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, Building Construction Technology or other related technical degree and four years of progressive experience in industrial or facilities maintenance and/or construction work including some supervisory experience; or five years of progressive experience in Engineering-related work including some supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
|Departmental Required Skills||
Experience with building automation and HVAC systems in a Facilities Management environment.
Ability to effectively communicate complex information to a variety of audiences at different levels within an organization.
Ability to plan and direct the work of others.
|Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education||
Graduation from a four year college or university in engineering or a related field and three years experience with building automation and HVAC systems in a Facilities Management environment.
At least two years experience in a Facilities environment developing competence in some of the above areas to include commissioning projects. Supervisory experience is preferable.

Valid Driver’s License required.
