College Success Coach Instructor

General Description of the Position

The College Success Coach/Instructor, as a part of the Office of Student Success Intervention & Retention team, works under the supervision of the Coordinator of Academic Recovery & Retention to deploy a sustainable academic success plan for at-risk students and is primarily responsible for planning, organizing, and teaching learning strategies and academic success courses. The position requires an individual with special skills and abilities to foster a collaborative learning environment, deliver methodologies, and appropriate course of action for students who have academic probation standing. The College Success Coach/Instructor will be required to participate in assessment efforts to identify programmatic needs and improvement related to specific learning and retention program outcomes. The incumbent must be familiar with academic major requirements and university policy and is expected to collaborate with academic colleges to employ strategies specifically related to achievement in that discipline.


Essential Functions & Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Essential Functions 
The following are the functions essential to performing this job: 
1. Teach Learning Strategies/Academic Success courses and facilitate strategy programs that will assist students with strengthening core academic competencies. 
2. Foster applications of learning that specifically target academic dispositions, composition skills and quantitative skills to support effective learning and academic success. 
3. Assist at-risk students with identifying academic success obstacles and make recommendations to implement actionable success plans. 
4. Provide assistance with the development of academic programming and advisement for students on academic probation and non-compliant with Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress. 
5. Conduct individual and group sessions with at-risk students on a regular basis. 
6. Provide information and referrals regarding campus services and OSS academic resources. 
7. Assist in the coordination of specialized activities related to university wide retention efforts. Perform duties related to data collection, for specialized services related to retention, and student success. 
8. Work collaboratively with Directors of Advising for planning and coordination of student success program initiatives. 
9. Monitor academic performance of at-risk population for reporting purposes. 
10. Deploy high-level interactive programming that will lead to a strong rapport and quality relationships with at-risk students to support student success outcomes.

4. Demonstrated ability for effectively teaching undergraduate students.

6. Must possess sensitivity to cultural diversity and ability to communicate and interact effectively with people of all ages and diverse background. Must be optimistic, positive, and supportive in all interactions with others. 
7. Ability to interpret university policies, procedures, and processes. 
8. Ability to work independently and without intense supervision, but also effectively contribute to a leadership team with a service-oriented philosophy. 


Qualification Standards

1. Education: Bachelor’s degree, (Master's degree preferred) in Student Personnel, Counseling, Education, Organizational Leadership, or other related fields. 
2. Two to five years’ experience working in Higher Education with college students. 
3. Must possess a positive attitude towards student success and University retention initiatives. 
4. Demonstrated superior customer service skills and ability to work collaboratively with a variety of diverse constituents including students, parents, faculty, advisors, and administrators. 
5. Must have strong computer skills and can demonstrate mastery knowledge in the use of computers and using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook & Access) to create and produce written reports, data tracking, and other documents.
