General Information
The College of Science and Mathematics (CSM) at James Madison University (JMU) is committed to the academic and career success of students housed in the college. We invite applications for an Industrial Liaison who will develop and maintain mutually beneficial relationships with industry to support the career development of CSM students, increase work-force readiness and relevance of curricula. CSM is comprised of the departments of Biology, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Geology and Environmental Science, Mathematics and Statistics, and Physics and Astronomy, as well as collaborative offerings in Biotechnology, Data Analytics, Climate Science, and three Environmental programs. CSM is a vibrant college that places undergraduate student learning as its primary focus in which our students learn by doing. The vast majority of CSM majors participate in a work-based learning experience prior to graduation with the majority of these being undergraduate research within or outside the classroom setting. CSM is deeply committed to student, staff, and faculty diversity, with a focus on enhancing inclusivity and belonging. A state-funded public-private partnership with Blue Ridge Community College and Merck designed to address the workforce needs in the Shenandoah Valley provides a model for the structures we are developing to link CSM students with employers in the region.
Duties and Responsibilities
The specific job responsibilities of the CSM Industrial Liaison will include:
  • Develop and implement resources and/or activities that prepare CSM students for internships and employment.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with industry professions to provide mutually beneficial opportunities for CSM students and industry partners.
  • Work with CSM faculty and industrial partners to enhance curricula to address the needs of industrial partners and potential employers.
  • Work collaboratively with CSM’s Communications Manager to market CSM programs and activities to industry and industry opportunities to CSM students.
  • Develop and/or coordinate the development of resources and/or activities that provide networking opportunities for CSM students, alumni, and industry.
  • Working collaboratively with CSM personnel including our Student Success Coordinator and Inclusive Excellence Director and Associate Deans for Faculty Support and Development, and Research and Scholarship.
Qualifications
Required qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM or equivalent experience in industry
  • Demonstration of strong written and oral communication abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple concurrent tasks and stakeholders to meet project goals and deliverable deadlines
  • Evidence of organization, project planning, and time management in complex environments
  • Ability to develop training resources in higher education setting, primarily for undergraduates
  • Experience with cultivating productive collaborations with multiple stakeholders
  • A demonstrated commitment to equitable collaboration
  • Proficiency with office productivity tools such as Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook) or comparable systems
  • Highly motivated, creative, and independent learner

Preferred qualifications:
  • Experience interacting with academic (K-12 and/or postsecondary) institutions and students
  • Experience with event planning and organization
  • Experience with collaborating on grant proposals for external funding

The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report contains information regarding campus security and personal safety including topics such as: crime prevention, the university police law enforcement authority, crime reporting policies, disciplinary procedures, protocols for the immediate notification of students and staff upon confirmation of a significant emergency on campus and other matters of importance related to security and safety. The report includes statistics for the most recent three-year period of reported crimes that have occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by JMU or its affiliates; and on public property within or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus.
The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report includes campus housing fire statistics for the most recent three-year period, a description of each on-campus student housing facility fire safety system, the number of fire drills held during the previous calendar year, policies or rules on portable electrical appliances, smoking, and open flames in student housing; and procedures for student housing evacuation in the event of fire along with other fire safety information.
