The College of Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign seeks interested applicants for the administrative faculty position of Director of the Advanced Materials Testing and Evaluation Laboratory.
The Advanced Materials Testing and Evaluation Laboratory (AMTEL) is a mechanical testing and materials diagnostics and metrology facility in the College of Engineering.
The College is embarking on an effort to upgrade AMTEL to a state-of-the-art facility to serve as:
• A shared-service research facility in support of state-of-the-art mechanics research by combining the latest loading machines with state-of-the art diagnostics. The goal is for AMTEL to become a College-wide facility for cross-disciplinary, bleeding-edge research on mechanics of materials.
• A facility in support of the educational mission of the College in the area of mechanical testing, materials diagnostics and metrology.
• A resource for growing the College’s engagement in industrial consulting/testing services and applied research activities.
The Director will report to the Dean of the College of Engineering and will develop a strategic plan to advance AMTEL to a state-of-the-art facility of national prominence.
Candidates are expected to hold a tenured faculty position at the level of full Professor (or an endowed position) in the College of Engineering. They must have a proven record of accomplishments in research, teaching, and leadership in the areas of interest related to AMTEL. They must also show evidence of strong collaborative, administrative, and communication skills in order to effectively interact with department, college and campus administration, and faculty, staff, and students.
The desired start date for this position is as soon as possible. Applicants may be interviewed before the closing date; however, no hiring decision will be made until after that date.
