Position Description
Advertised Job Summary | To provide pre-college counseling and preparation to low-income, first generation high school students. Work with guidance counselors and high school students from Richland District I & II. |

Required Education and Experience | Masters degree in Student Services or related field, or bachelor’s degree and 2 years related experience. |
Preferred Qualifications | Knowledge of TRIO Programs. Experience in counseling, advising and placing students into four year institutions of higher learning. |
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities | Able to communicate with high school students and various educational professionals to include guidance counselors at various high schools. Knowledge of admissions procedures for higher ed institutions and able communicate information in an effective manner. |

Job Duty | Recruit, interview, and provide orientation to all new eligible students for the project each year. Establish and maintain a cooperative relationship with public school personnel in the target high school for the purpose of recruiting new students. This shall include individual bimonthly meetings in the high schools with program students. |

Job Duty | Responsible for administering the academic post-secondary counseling and recruitment components of the program. Arrange activities that provide complete post-secondary admissions, financial guidance to program students, including college visitations, financial aid and scholarship workshops and the identification of appropriate post-secondary educational institutions for each student, and helps with the completion of the applications. Establish a network of personal contacts in financial aid, admissions, and TRIO Offices and serve as an advocate for students with those offices. Provide a contact person for graduation seniors at their chosen college. Assist students in location scholarships and ensure that each senior has been offered an adequate financial aid package. Give an annual report (oral & written) that details final statistics of the senior graduation class (college attended, SAT scores, scholarships, financial aid, etc.) Responsible for tracking program participants after they have completed high school. |
