The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
 

Position Summary

Working under the general direction of the Director of Compliance, oversees and manages 6+ employees responsible for coding and documentation review, auditing, and charge release within a hybrid remote & onsite work environment.


Responsibilities

  • Working under the general direction of the Director of Compliance, oversees and manages 6+ employees responsible for coding and documentation review, auditing, and charge release within a hybrid remote & onsite work environment.
  • Responsible for staff assignment or reassignment based on operational needs, special projects, or changes in charge volume and throughput.
  • Ensures staff adhere to productivity metrics. Carefully monitors staff productivity and can assess reasonable adjustments to productivity based on staff time and effort to review CPTs and diagnosis codes, and clinical documentation.
  • Conduct random audits of CPT and Diagnosis coding in relation to the provider clinical documentation to ensure staff consistently code according to the clinical documentation, CMS, or NCC/ requirements. Educates staff as needed to improve quality and consistency
  • Recognize pre-billing charge edit trends and causative factors and can identify the appropriate action to take to resolve. Identifies common warning and error trends, and identifies specific causative factors (system, provider, or operations related) and can take appropriate action to resolve.
  • Collaborate with OBGYN coding and documentation compliance to identify provider education needs to ensure compliance or identify revenue opportunities. Develops and evaluates education material and plans meetings/presentations with the provider community. Follows up with provider to ensure compliance, as needed.
  • Represents the department in informational meetings and workgroups as an active participant.
  • Full understanding of incident to and other billing requirements.
  • Evaluates statistical performance and KO!s, identifies causative factors for underperformance, and recommends action to take to resolve or improve performance.
  • Working manager - Will be required to take on caseload for charges that require review and or direct coding, based on operational need, volume increases, or as coverage for staff who are out of the office.
  • Reviews and manages the non-invasive missing charges reports, enters charges (as needed) and marks as reviewed. Identifies potential operational issues and a plan of action.
  • Hires, evaluates, disciplines, and terminates employees as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in experience required; plus four years of related experience.
  • Current CPC by an accredited organization such as AAPC, PM/, or AH/MA.
  • Understanding of claims coding denials and resolution.
  • Physician coding and documentation education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience coding surgical procedures and invasive and non-invasive diagnostic procedures.
  • Epic system experience.
  • Strong knowledge of CMS and NCCI coding regulations.
