Position Summary:

FAU Harbor Branch, located in Ft. Pierce, is a research institute focusing on marine science and oceanography.  Over 200 scientists, staff and students work and study at the site.  The Physical Plant department supports these efforts by maintaining the labs, grounds, offices, and campus infrastructure.

Florida Atlantic University is seeking a Coastal Ocean Modeler- Ft. Pierce, FL.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement coupled physical-biogeochemical models for studying harmful algal blooms, water quality, and carbon cycle in various freshwater lakes, estuarine and coastal regions.

  • Perform numerical simulations, analysis of the model results, data analysis, and prepares scientific reports, presentations and/or publications.

  • Coordinates research activities between related projects and within the team and with collaborators.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree from an accredited institution in Marine Science, Oceanography, or related area of specialization is required.
Significant knowledge of at least one of the generic coastal ocean models (e.g. POM, ECOM-si, ROMS, FVCOM); At least one year of actual ocean modeling related experience is required.
Strong programming and mathematical skills are desired; familiar with high performance computing (HPC) environment and significant knowledge of Fortran, Matlab, and/or Python is required.
Significant knowledge of physical oceanography, marine chemistry, and/or marine biology is required.

Salary:

$48,000 - $54,000 per year.
