Uses computational, computer science, data science, and continuous integration (CI) software research and development principles, with relevant domain science knowledge where applicable, along with professional programming concepts for medium-sized projects or portions of larger projects. Engages with stakeholders across the organization to carry projects from conception to execution, including system architecture and tasking for other developers. Develops and optimizes a variety of computational, data science, and CI research tools and components. Performs research on current and future high-performance computing (HPC), data, and CI technologies, from a software perspective. Interfaces with system administrator(s) to plan and allocate hardware needs. Works on algorithm development, optimization, programming, performance analysis and/or benchmarking assignments of moderate scope where the tasks involve knowledge of domain/computer science research requirements and/or CI design and implementation requirements.

The incumbent must ensure the smooth operation and effectiveness of various aspects related to data management, sample processing, and communication within CMI. This includes maintenance and administration of database repositories by ensuring the integrity, security, and optimal performance of the organization's databases. Tasks include database schema design, data migration, data backup and recovery, performance tuning, and implementing access controls to safeguard sensitive information. Sample processing status pipelines by managing the workflows and pipelines that track the progress of sample processing from collection to analysis. This includes designing, implementing, and optimizing automated processes to ensure efficient sample tracking, status updates, and data synchronization across different stages of processing.

Handling shipping and logistics APIs which involves managing the integration with shipping and logistics APIs to facilitate the smooth and timely transportation of samples between different locations. Including developing, testing, and maintaining API endpoints for seamless communication with shipping carriers and logistics partners. Digital participant report generation that involves designing and developing automated systems for generating participant reports based on collected data. This may include creating templates, integrating with data sources, and implementing algorithms for data analysis and visualization to generate informative and actionable reports for participants. The incumbent is also responsible for sample ascensioning digital interfaces such as managing the digital interfaces used for sample ascensioning, which is the process of assigning unique identifiers and metadata to samples upon their entry into the system. This includes developing user-friendly interfaces, ensuring data accuracy during ascensioning, and integrating with other systems for data exchange. As well as quality assurance and testing that encompasses all aspects of ensuring the quality, reliability, and performance of the software architecture such as developing and executing test plans, conducting regression testing, identifying and documenting defects, and collaborating with developers to address issues and improve software quality.

This position is responsible for coordination with CMI Directors and external collaborators such as synergizing task actions and communicating updates with various stakeholders within the organization, as well as directors of research, communications, and the executive director.
