Job Summary
Reporting directly to the SVP/President of Adult Services, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for the Adult Services is a member of the adult services senior executive team and is responsible for the medical aspects of hospital-based activities of inpatient adult services. The CMO of Adult Services is primarily responsible for aligning inpatient medical care across adult services and improving the interface of inpatient services.
The CMO of Adult Services is responsible for developing consistent roles and responsibilities for physician leaders (medical directors) across adult services and aligning these roles with the TN goals of UCSF Health which include quality and safety, patient and workforce experience, financial performance, growth, evolution as a learning health system. This involves the development and refinement of a common medical director program across adult services. The CMO of Adult Services is responsible for standardizing medical care policies and procedures where appropriate and for identifying circumstances where variation is justified on clinical care grounds.

Required Qualifications
Ten (10) years of progressive management or leadership experience in
an academic medical center or large healthcare system.
Ability to handle executive management responsibilities across multiple hospitals and the division's line of business.
Demonstrated understanding of local and national quality and safety regulations, standards,
and trends. Advanced knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements as well as legislative,
accreditation, licensing, and compliance environments.
Demonstrates decisiveness and ability to gain consensus where appropriate
Ability to drive results.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, particularly in sensitive situations that may
involve public scrutiny.
Demonstrated business acumen.
Ability to lead change initiatives.
Ability to promote and maintain solid interpersonal relationships. Highly advanced interpersonal
skills. Expert negotiation and influencing skills.
An effective visionary who can lead and incent diverse constituencies
Ability to make decisions based on fact and sound judgment.
MD degree required plus ten years of progressive management or leadership experience in
an academic medical center or large healthcare system.
Current California MD license. (or commitment to obtain a California license within one year
of employment).
Active Medical License in at least one US State.
Preferred Qualifications
Understanding of UCSF Health’s operations, competitors, economic, social, and legal
environments.
License/Certification
