Position Summary
The Club Sport Athletic Trainer (Graduate Assistant) is responsible for assisting in the development, direction, and evaluation of a comprehensive athletic training Club Sports program. Coordinates and delivers athletic training services to various club student-athletes. This position reports to the Director of Sports and Wellness.
This is a student position open to current UIW graduate students.
Essential Functions
Essential functions include:
-Coordinates and delivers athletic training services to various club student-athletes including, but not limited to, coordination of physical exams, evaluation and treatment of injuries at practices and games, design and supervision of rehabilitation programs, counseling within the limits of expertise, pre-practice/game taping, and coverage of all official practices and games.
- Refers injured athletes to appropriate health care providers according to department guidelines and within the limits of expertise.
- Submits injured athlete status reports to coaches by a mutually agreed time of the day prior to practices and competitions.
- Maintains computerized injury, treatment, incident, insurance, and medication forms and/or databases according to department guidelines.
- Communicates with various department heads and supervisors as it pertains to athletic training.
- Manages, organizes, and maintains the assigned athletic training rooms, equipment, supplies, and inventory.
-Assists organizational leadership in purchasing and tracking inventory of university property;
-Serves on departmental, university, and/or national committees;
- Exhibits behaviors in strict compliance with the NATA Code of Professional Practice.
-Understands and represents the mission and vision of UIW and UIW Sports and Wellness;
-Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications


Knowledge Skills and Abilities
-Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills;
-Proficiency in Microsoft Office products;
-Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures;
-Ability to work during normal business work hours;
-Knowledge of sports at the collegiate level;
-Commitment to student-athlete welfare and academic success;
-Ability to prepare reports, statistical reports, inventory control, budget management, and student development for the athletic training Club Sports program;
-Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others;
-Excellent organizational and time-management skills;
-Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA
Required Education
  • A bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training
  • Current UIW graduate student
Required Work Experience
Must be eligible for the Texas Licensure exam
Preferred Qualifications
Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations
Must be Texas licensed or eligible
Should be NATA certified
CPR and AED Certification
Work Hours
-15 hours per week required;
-Requires travel during the week, over the weekends, possibly during holidays and with exposure to the weather
Physical Demands
Ability to lift heavy objects including people
Dexterity, and administration of emergency procedures when necessary
