The NC State Veterinary Hospital (VH), established in 1983, is one of the highest rated academic medical centers in the country, serving communities throughout North Carolina as well as many other states. The mission of the Veterinary Hospital is three-fold:

  • Expert clinical instruction for 4th year veterinary students and house officers from the College of Veterinary Medicine.

With over 17 clinical services staffed by board certified specialists, many of whom are not only nationally but also internationally renowned, the VH is on the cutting edge of veterinary medicine. Patients benefit from the combined expertise of multiple specialists utilizing a team approach to patient health care. Each year, over 35,000 patients are treated in the VH.
The successful candidate will be expected to be an active member of the section and contribute to our delivery of exceptional patient care and exemplary teaching.
Essential Job Duties
The candidate will support the clinical work of the Translational Research in Pain (TRiP) program on funded clinical research studies. Patients will primarily be dogs and cats (possible occasional work with rodents to support the basic research).
Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Perform physical exams and orthopedic and neurological exams on small animal patients
  • Support data collection for variety of research projects centered on diagnosing, treating, and understanding orthopedic pain
  • Assist in recruitment to studies, obtaining radiographs and interpretation, and collecting study data 
  • Coordinate tissue collection and organize tissue banks for future analysis

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • DVM (or equivalent degree but must be able to practice veterinary medicine in the U.S.) and eligibility for veterinary licensure (or faculty licensure) in the State of NC.
Other Required Qualifications
  • Experience with evaluating (physical, orthopedic and neurological assessments) companion animals
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative, service-oriented, rapidly changing environment to accomplish mutual goals
  • Ability to work independently and effectively across organizational lines and in collaboration with colleagues throughout the organization
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills; aptitude for detailed work
  • Project management skills/experience; skills running a clinical unit
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience as part of a clinical care team
  • Fear Free Training for companion animals
  • Experience working with chronic and painful conditions in animals
  • Applied knowledge of laboratory management
Required License(s) or Certification(s)
  • Licensed to practice veterinary medicine
  • Eligible to obtain NC Veterinary Medical License
Valid NC Driver's License required No
Commercial Driver's License required No
