Position Summary
The NC TraCS Institute is seeking a Clinical Support Technician (CST). This position will work within the Clinical and Translational Research Center (CTRC) which is the largest entity on campus supporting clinical trials across the School of Medicine/UNC Health. The CTRC provides outpatient clinical services to support a wide variety of research studies involving human subjects with an array of investigators representing the Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Public Health, Nursing, and others. The CST supports clinical research studies by performing procedures, maintaining front office operations, and ensuring supply inventories. The CST ensures the integrity of research data while maintaining care that is safe, efficient, timely, effective, equitable, compassionate, and patient-centered.
The primary purpose of this Clinical Support Technician (CST) position is to provide patient care services with a focus on the care of participants who volunteer for clinical research studies conducted primarily in an ambulatory setting. Primary duties will include performing clerical and clinical support activities for adult and pediatric research participants with diverse medical problems as well as healthy volunteers in the CTRC Outpatient Unit located in the Burnett-Womack building or on occasion, at research on location sites across campus. The CST will provide a variety of front office operations to include, but not limited to, participant scheduling, greeting, and directing participants and visitors, supporting the healthcare team with information and administrative support, answering, and directing telephone calls and relaying messages to the health team and performing other administrative tasks as needed. Direct patient care activities include, but are not limited to, the measurement and documentation of vital signs, height, and weight; point of care testing, performing ECGs, specimen collection, handling, and processing, and assisting in emergency situations as directed by a provider or nurse. The CST will also provide clinical support assistance to include, but not limited to, opening/closing of unit, cleaning of the work area, maintaining office equipment, checking supply inventory, ordering office and medical supplies, re-stocking supplies, entering repair requests, and assisting in the orientation of new employees and users.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require registration as a Nurse Aide by the North Carolina Board of Nursing or certification through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA.)
The individual assuming this position must possess current Nurse Aide certification and be in good standing through the NC Department of Health & Human Services Nurse’s Aide Registry. Additional required qualifications include:
* Must have current AHA (American Heart Association) Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers
* Experience working with pediatric patients in a clinical setting
* Clerical or customer service-related experience
* Related nursing assistant experience
* Ability to work with a variety of people in a professional, effective, diplomatic manner and maintain effective communications with patients, health care personnel, staff, and others
* Ability to work independently, as well as function as part of a team
* Significant attention to detail and the ability to successfully balance multiple competing priorities
* Must be flexible, collaborative, and have a willingness to assist others whenever needed
* Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
* Working knowledge of standard office equipment including computers, copiers, scanners, and multi-line phones
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Preferred qualifications include:
* Prior experience working at a UNC Health facility
* Experience working with pediatric patients, aged newborn up to 6 years of age
* Experience working in clinical research
* Experience with Epic (electronic medical record).
* Strong computer skills and working knowledge of Word, Excel, and Outlook
Special Physical/Mental Requirements
* Ability to sit for extended periods of time in front of a computer with or without reasonable accommodation.
* Visual attention and mental concentration are always required due to the clinical nature of the work.
* Ability to lift/move 30 pounds and move a wheelchair with or without reasonable accommodation.
* Ability to travel distances within the UNC Medical Center and various on campus locations with or without reasonable accommodation.
