Job Description:

The Clinical Research Coordinator III is located in the Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences (SLHS), College of Public Health and Health Professions (PHHP) and will serve as the research coordinator for the Speech Development Laboratory. The candidate will provide support to a current National Institutes of Health funded study titled, Poverty-Related Risk Factors for Auditory and Language Deficits in Children.

The candidate will have knowledge of auditory, speech, and language development. Responsibilities include supervising the collection of data from young children on tests of auditory processing, language, and speech, as well as on parent-child interactions. Specific duties will involve recruitment of subjects, training university students on research protocols, scheduling subjects, obtaining informed consent from subjects and their parents, scoring and analyses of data, and supporting dissemination efforts. The candidate will coordinate research and lab activities under minimal supervision.


Develops and implements research participant advertisement materials and recruitment procedures. Recruits, screens, schedules, conducts, and meets with research participants. Ensures research participants get to the laboratory. Coordinates protocol-related procedures. Consents research participants. Ensures post-testing scoring and analysis procedures are appropriately followed. Oversees the testing of research participants conducted by university students and perform testing as needed. Assists with research participant payments and study finances including sponsor invoicing, resolving research participant billing, and prepare budgeting. Executes research funded protocols. Monitor and audit studies to ensure all procedures adhere to IRB approved protocols. Retains records/archive documents.
Oversees scoring of data, data entry and reliability checks, and data analysis. Manages, trains, and supervises clinical staff and university students performing specific data collection and scoring procedures.
Coordinates and facilitates research/project meetings with all study personnel. Schedules other personnel services (OPS) employees, student assistants, and students. Orders materials and supplies and maintains inventory lists.
Contributes to manuscript preparation.
Responsible for assisting in the interpretation and implementation of policies and procedures as they apply to assigned areas of responsibility. Assesses protocol feasibility. Recommends and implements changes on policy/procedures as necessary. Coordinates special studies or projects as directed.
Ensures that all university policies and procedures involving the proper conduct of research with research participants are followed appropriately. Submits documents to the IRB. Reports adverse events.

Ensures the safety of the research and laboratory. Complies with institutional policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs) and guidelines. Must comply with federal, state and sponsor policies.

Expected Salary:

$70,000.00 - $80,000.00 annually; commensurate based on qualifications and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and three years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

PhD in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences or related discipline.
Completion of Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-Speech-Language Pathology or CCC-Audiology).
Experience with psychophysical test procedures.
Knowledge in the areas of speech, language, and auditory development.
Highly motivated and self-directed individual, making progress without direct supervision. Responsible for meeting deadlines.
Detail-oriented.
Strong spoken and written communications skills. Articulate and tactful communication skills; readiness to meet and work directly with research participants.
Capacity and motivation to learn new software, research methods, and work routines quickly; flexibility in responding to new research opportunities as they arise.
Motivation to engage in and manage a wide range of intellectual and physical work, ranging from preparing mass mailings to analyzing proposed data-collection designs.
Ability to create and develop personal relationships. Ability to work in a team and share responsibilities and rewards with coworkers, including off-campus clients and UF faculty, staff, and fellow students.
Strong existing computer skills with Microsoft Office and general internet and electronic communications.  Ability to use relevant software, including Matlab and Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS).
