Position Summary: 

The Perioperative Services Nurse Educator is accountable for managing Staff Development, continuous Quality Improvement and Medical Staff orientation programs for Perioperative Services.  Assesses needs, counsels and evaluates performance of new OR staff, and participates in the orientation of nursing and medical students, house staff, and visitors to the Operating Room environment.

Salary Range: 

Annual Rate  Minimum  $111,200.00                       Midpoint    $163,100.00                       Maximum             $215,000.00

 

 

Responsibilities:

Demonstrates appropriate use of independent judgment and decision making

Intervenes appropriately in situations where basic life support systems are threatened

Applies the quality improvement process to install and evaluate safety and effectiveness standards for new technology or methods of patient care

Within the specialty unit, assesses and monitors the clinical skills of the staff to ensure competent patient care

Consistently reviews various reports to determine the effectiveness of nursing services within the specialty area

Sets appropriate clinical standards in the specialty area, utilizing Title 22, JCAHO and CDC guidelines

Conducts effective hospital-wide and community-based training, in-services, or meetings

Provides effective education, direction and guidance to clinical staff

Utilizes clinical expertise to assist unit staff in providing patient care and education

Participates in professional development

Provides effective leadership to the healthcare team

Participates in research, research utilization projects, and/or advanced clinical practice

Participates in the collection of quality improvement data as assigned

Effectively utilizes knowledge of surgical and age appropriate patient needs to identify trends and development QI programs

Acts as a clinical resource to staff in the use of equipment, providing in-services, validating competencies and advising management on training needs

Demonstrates strong leadership skills in dealing with staff and members of the healthcare team

Serves as an effective role model and preceptor to staff

Consistently demonstrates an advanced level of clinical expertise and enhanced communication skills

Demonstrates basic knowledge and understanding of anesthetic drugs and monitoring needs

Consistently initiates corrective action when breaks in sterile technique occur

Participates in advanced surgical techniques, including orienting new employees, evaluating new instruments, and participating in surgical in-services

Demonstrates an understanding of emergency procedures

Consistently ensures nursing practice is evidence based

Demonstrates clinical expertise on councils, teams and committees

Develops and implements clinical education programs

Effectively coordinates annual skills training for clinical staff

Develops and maintains quality improvement activities and recommends/implements program changes as appropriate

Coordinates functions for various hospital surveys for approval by regulatory agencies

Collaborates in the implementation of nursing care standards

Participates in group research projects relating to clinical need in the community

Ensures compliance with hospital wide standards of nursing care

Acts as an effective liaison to medical staff to ensure continuity and congruity of hospital services in accordance with the plan of care

 

 

Required Qualifications:

Current California RN license and BLS certification

Demonstrated teaching/education/in-service skills with the ability to lead effectively

Thorough knowledge of JCAHO and other regulatory requirements present in an acute care setting

BSN or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Demonstrated nursing experience in the acute perioperative setting

 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

Experience in adult education

MSN Degree
