Job Summary
This position performs genetic and genomic test workflows and procedures in the four labs under Genetics and Genomics Services (Cytogentics Lab, Molecular Diagnostics Lab, Clinical Cancer Genomics Laboratory, and Genomics Medicine Lab). This position involves the operation of laboratory equipment, successful completion of documentation required for quality control, the transcription of test results such that results are accurately reported in a timely fashion, and administrative, clerical and support duties. This position will also require the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with faculty, staff, and appointed directors to troubleshoot errant results and malfunctioning laboratory equipment as needed. The qualified applicant is expected to follow all established quality control procedures. Furthermore, the qualified applicant will have a role in the evaluation and implementation of methods and instruments per the discretion of supervisory staff and faculty.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Required Qualifications
- BS degree in related field with a major in an appropriate field, and knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of duties assigned to the position.
- Experience working in a CLIA molecular laboratory.
- Knowledge of DNA and RNA extraction methodologies from a range of sample types, including from FFPE tissue.
- The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations is required.
- Proficient with PC, Windows, Word, Excel, etc.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of molecular testing including: PCR, quantitative PCR, sequencing, gel electrophoresis, FISH.
- Experience in a cytogenetics and/or high-volume complex laboratory.
- Recent experience in a clinical laboratory using CLIA Molecular Diagnostic techniques and procedures.
- Recent experience in a clinical laboratory using EPIC and/or CoPath and/or Sunquest.
License/Certification
- California Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) license or California Clinical Genetic Molecular Biologist Scientist license or a similar license of equal or higher level issued by the CA State Department of Health.
