Position Summary | The Department of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine is seeking a full-time, fixed-term position at the Clinical Instructor level to join the UNC Assertive Community Treatment Team (ACTT) operating in Orange and Chatham Counties. Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) consists of professionals from multiple disciplines (including psychiatry, nursing, social work, and rehabilitation counseling) who use a team approach to meet the needs of individuals with severe and persistent mental illness in community-based settings. ACT works according to a recovery-based philosophy and provides person-centered services addressing the breadth of an individual’s needs, helping him or her achieve their personal goals. ACT is generally the first responder and single point of responsibility for meeting the client’s needs, which necessitates higher frequency and intensity of services and a low staff-to-client ratio. This position is responsible for the coordination of ACT services for an assigned group of individuals served by the ACT Team, including clinical assessment, treatment planning, and implementation of evidence-based therapeutic interventions. Area(s) of focus for this position are determined by the skillset of the individual and of the needs of the client population but will include primary responsibility for provision of therapy services and will require knowledge of appropriate interventions including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, among others. This position may also assume some administrative responsibilities within the ACT Team. This position participates in the on-call rotation for the ACT Team and is expected to respond appropriately to calls within the required timeframe. This position may participate in the supervision and training of other ACT Team members, or interns/learners during rotations or placement with the ACT Team. This position reports directly to the ACT Team Lead. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements | Applicant must hold a Master’s Degree in a mental health or related field (Psychology, Social Work, Rehabilitation Counseling Psychology) and one year of direct work experience with persons with severe and persistent mental illnesses. Licensure, full or provisional, is required. Clinical supervision will be provided for provisionally licensed individuals. Skills and competence to establish supportive, trusting relationships with persons with severe and persistent mental illnesses and respect for client rights and personal preferences in treatment are essential. Must have a valid NC driver’s license. Candidates who hold (or are pursuing) an LCAS credential with the NCSAPPB are encouraged to apply. |
