Job Summary:

The CLIA Laboratory Director will direct the CLIA operations and certification for the Colorado Antiviral Pharmacology Laboratory (CAVP) in the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences on the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical campus. The position is considered a satellite position. The CAVP supports pre-clinical and clinical research studies for antiviral therapeutics including HIV, HBV, HCV, COVID-19, as well as therapeutics and biomarkers related with these illnesses. The laboratory analyzes and interprets drug concentrations measured from human and/or animal samples via liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry. The laboratory operates in a regulated environment including CLIA and FDA regulations. This position will be for the CLIA director to ensure the laboratory meets all regulatory standards related to CLIA testing. This is a part-time position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the laboratory meets the current CLIA requirement.
  • Assist with development and implementation of Quality Management Systems.
  • Provide periodic review of laboratory CLIA operations.
  • Ensure accurate and complete records of relevant laboratory activities for the pre-analytical, analytical, and post analytical testing phases.
  • Provide input for the development, validation, and implementation of new laboratory tests and methodologies.
  • Ensure safety protocols and procedures are in place for a safe working environment for laboratory staff including compliance with all relevant safety regulations.
  • Assist with issues or concerns related to laboratory operations, test results, or regulatory compliance in a timely and effective manner.
  • Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to laboratory staff and/or students on CLIA regulations, standards, and best practices.
  • Collaborate with lab leadership and other stakeholders to ensure the effective integration of laboratory services into patient care and clinical decision-making.
  • Stay informed about advances in laboratory science and technology, attend relevant conferences and workshops. 

Work Location:

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite when needed at the CU Anschutz Medical Campus.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • PhD in Clinical Toxicology closely related field
  • Diplomate of the American Board of Clinical Chemistry (DABCC) or equivalent
  • 5 years of experience as a CLIA director in Colorado 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least one (1) year experience working in an academic laboratory

    Anticipated Pay Range:

    The starting salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

    $250/month 

    The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
