Description:

The Assistant Director of the OCC Pharmacy is tasked with a range of responsibilities including but not limited to management, operations, and clinical faculty duties. Management duties encompass providing leadership and supervision to the pharmacy staff to ensure the delivery of safe, accurate, and efficient pharmacy services. This includes coordinating scheduling, setting priorities, and overseeing staff work direction. Moreover, the Assistant Director is responsible for training, conducting performance evaluations, and ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, state and federal laws, as well as standards set by the Joint Commission and other legal, regulatory, and professional bodies. Additionally, the Assistant Director collaborates with the Associate Director in recruitment, hiring, and other duties as assigned.

Operational responsibilities and expectations include, but are not limited to:
Setting the standard for excellent customer service to our patients and ambulatory healthcare partners
Facilitating strategies to uphold a high level of patient care and promptly address customer service issues
Ensuring the proper and safe dispensing and delivery of medications using pharmacy software and established workflows
Offering consultations to patients and healthcare professionals
Actively managing inventory, procurement, and implementing strategies to prevent diversion
Supervising pricing systems and providing guidance to staff on prescription claim reimbursement
Familiarity with Illinois prescription plans like Medicaid, Medicare Part D, and commercial prescription plans is preferred
Coordinating and overseeing pharmacy maintenance, equipment, and repairs projects
Cultivating professional relationships with UI Health clinics to market services effectively to healthcare partners at UI Health

The academic responsibilities of the clinical faculty member (Clinical Assistant/Associate/Full Professor) include the provision of didactic lectures and precepting entry level Doctor of Pharmacy students, PGY1 residents and PGY2 residents. Scholarly activities, including presentations and publications, are an expectation as well.

Clinical Pharmacist duties include working closely with pharmacy technicians, students, medical staff, and patients in providing patient-centered clinical pharmacy services.

We're searching for someone who is enthusiastic and caring, demonstrating strong leadership and management skills, with experience in supervising pharmacy staff and leading pharmacy operations. The ideal candidate should be a good team player, have clear communication skills, and be able to adapt to changes in the work environment. They should also be great at managing time and organizing tasks, with a firm commitment to providing excellent patient care.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduate of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited pharmacy program with PharmD or equivalent terminal degree
  • Demonstrable experience in specialty area as defined by the discipline
  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical pharmacist experience providing patient-centered services and/ or 3 years
  • of operations-related experience as a pharmacy manager, preferably in an academic medical center setting
  • Extensive practice experience involving a thorough knowledge of hospital or ambulatory pharmacy with a philosophy of practice as dictated by specialty area needs; managerial ability/skills
  • Licensed as a registered pharmacist by the state of Illinois Department of Professional Regulation or eligible for such licensure upon employment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in ambulatory care or community pharmacy setting.
  • Previous experience in demonstrating strong clinical knowledge base; analytical and problem-solving skills; excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate effectively with healthcare professionals and pharmacy leadership, ability to consistently meet deadlines; demonstrate flexibility with schedule availability, ability to work independently, adapt to a changing work environment; excellent planning skills, time management and organizational skills.
  • Knowledgeable to resolve medication related problems and/or insurance issues.
