What we want   


The Director (not ORP-eligible), under general direction, maintains responsibility for the management and direction of the clinical core at the Texas A&M University Telehealth Institute.   This role serves as lead for patient care initiatives across health disciplines at the Telehealth Institute (TI) as well as provides consultation to other units at TAMU using Telehealth.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Ten years of experience in clinical operations or management

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of clinical practices, protocols, in various clinical settings 

  • Understanding of medical and healthcare ethics, privacy laws (e.g. HIPAA), and regulatory requirements related to telehealth 

  • Familiarity with telehealth platforms, tools, and technologies 

  • Knowledge of telecommunications systems and electronic health records (EHR) 

  • Knowledge of health care management principles, including budgeting, financial management, and strategic planning 

  • Understanding of quality assurance, patient safety, and risk management 

  • Knowledge of health care regulations, licensing requirements, and compliance standards for telehealth practice 

  • Familiarity with state and federal laws affecting telehealth practice

  • Effective management skills including project management, decision-making, and conflict resolution 

  • Strong analytical skills to evaluate telehealth program performance and identify areas for improvement

  • Capacity to anticipate future trends and adapt telehealth strategies accordingly 

Responsibilities:

TI Clinical Core Management

  • Coordinates clinical operations for the Telehealth Institute.

  • Participates in the planning and development of policies and procedures, as well as clinic-specific procedures and program. 

  • Creates, develops, reviews, and updates in-house clinical practices policies as needed. 

  • Creates, develops, reviews, and updates clinical forms as needed. 

  • Manages Clinic Staff on day-to-day operations. 

  • Collaborates with Operations Director on HR management and financial obligations pertaining to the Clinical Core.

  • Provides employee performance management by completing performance appraisals and setting individual goals as outlined in policy. 

  • Effectively leads and develops a team of employees including hiring, training, and development, salary recommendations, etc. 

  • Provides clinical staff oversight and supervision which includes but not limited to:approving time, approving leave time, daily absence annual employee evaluations, routine audits, onboarding/orientation of new employees, outboarding of employee resignations.

  • Ensures coverage for technical and phone support, promote healthy relationships between staff and clinicians.

  • Ensures completion of assigned tasks by clinical staff and providers (especially completion of EHR records), ensure completion of TAMU/TAMHSC required trainings; oversees scheduling of clinical staff, booths, and other clinical resources. 

  • Attends weekly meetings with Telehealth Institute Directors.

  • Ensures proficiency and quality service is delivered pertaining to clinical operations.

  • Ensures and maintains environment to comply with regulatory, licensure, compliance, and accreditation requirements.  

  • Serves as the first point of contact for patient and external complaints. 

  • Reconciles and investigates all complaints relating to clinical practice operations 

  • Collaborates with Platform Success Director to ensure the seamless integration and functionality of telehealth technologies, including telecommunication systems and EHRs 

  • Collaborates with IT and other departments to troubleshoot technical issues and implement system upgrades or enhancements 

  • Ensures that telehealth services comply with all relevant local, state, and federal regulations 

  • Identify and mitigate risks associated with telehealth service delivery,  

  • Remains up-to date on TAMU policies and procedures and communicate, distribute, and educate clinical staff 

  • Implements continuous quality improvement initiatives to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of telehealth services. 

  • Acts as HIPAA and clinical compliance officer for the institute.

Business Development and Management

  • Works with Executive Director and HSC Clinical Strategy leadership to develop and implement telehealth clinical programs that align with the organization’s strategic goals and objectives 

  • Explores and implements innovative telehealth solutions and partnerships to meet emerging healthcare needs.  

  • Investigates tele-specialties scope of practice and reimbursement, map service offerings that can be conducted via telehealth in these specialties to needs of rural areas and provide projections of various payment models. 

  • Develops workflows for different telehealth service lines and models .

  • Prepares, recommends, and monitors budgets, goals, and of telehealth clinical services from a variety of funding sources. 

  • Identifies opportunities for cost savings and revenue generation within the telehealth program 

  • Engages with internal and external stakeholders, including healthcare providers, patients, insurance companies, and regulatory bodies, to support and advance telehealth services.

  • Represents TI in telehealth-related forums, conferences, and industry groups 

  • Works with marketing and communications manager to promote new business, encourage adoption of telehealth services, and communicate success within the clinical care 

Clinical Liaison

  • Acts as the liaison between the Telehealth Institute and other clinical operations internal and external to TAMU.

  • Assists with TI annual report related to clinical core activities.

  • Performs other duties as assigned
