Position Summary
Working under the guidance of the Director of Business Operations-Clinical Operations, administers planning, developing, organizing, and implementation of clinical services across multiple divisions that support the successful operations and fiscal integrity of the department.


Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

ADMINISTRATION

  • Oversight of clinical provider and patient care services with various leadership members, including physicians, division chiefs, vice chairs, CRNA and APP leadership, administrators, business directors, and BJC hospital partners to provide quality medical services in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Designs and implements processes to accommodate clinical provider and patient care needs, including working with multiple teams to support all operations.
  • May provide administrative supervision for clinical managers in designated areas.
  • Tracks key operating statistics and provide management reports.

PLANNING

  • Regularly secures and disseminates information to maintain compliance with changing legislation and regulations.
  • Works with the Director of Business Operations-Clinical Operations to support and help maintain various hospital service agreements.
  • Assists the Director of Business Operations with tactical and strategic planning processes to address changes in services and volume, including drafting recommendations in response to requests for changes in staffing and utilization.

ORGANIZATION

  • Oversees an efficient and effective organization of professional and support staff to meet the personnel resource needs of multiple clinical divisions across the department.
  • Assists with analyzing and evaluating the effectiveness of clinical operations using new and established clinical practice and service standards and recommends changes as needed.
  • Implements approved changes under the direction of the Director of Business Operations-Clinical Operations.
  • Formulates, recommends, implements and evaluates policies and procedures required to execute patient care and provider needs.
  • Participates in committees and work groups, as appropriate, impacting operations such as the FPP, WUSM, and various partner hospitals.

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY

  • Works in tandem with clinical business directors, Director of Business Operations, and Director of Finance on the annual operating budget, including monitoring changes that result from hospital service agreement updates over time.  
  • Manages budget and related areas for assigned divisions and enforces spending limits.
  • Interprets the budget to staff as appropriate, emphasizing the importance of economic resource utilization while maintaining quality service deliver, both medical and operational.
  • Participates in the design and utilization of clinical space to accommodate required clinical activities while conserving and making maximum use of existing resources.
  • Designs and implements processes to most efficiently manage fiscal controls across multiple clinical divisions.

HUMAN RESOURCES

  • Develops and conducts staff development opportunities and programs as appropriate.
  • Effectively manages performance and development of assigned staff to maximize efficiency through training and timely coaching. In collaboration with the Director of Business Operations-Clinical Operations, sets a tone of leadership that is people-oriented, collaborative in nature, and continues to build an inclusive culture based on teamwork, open communication, innovation, mentoring, and accountability.


Preferred Qualifications

    • Masterâ™s degree in health service management or business administration.
    • Experience in an academic medical setting.
    • The successful candidate will have demonstrated success in promoting and supporting a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion and possess emotional intelligence and a strong commitment to building a collaborative and safe culture.
    • Prior experience with University systems and procedures.
    • Ability to plan, organize, direct people, control resources, and think creatively.
    • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
    • Ability to work effectively with a broad range of faculty, staff, learners, department leadership, and medical school administration.
    • Demonstrated initiative in setting priorities and designing mechanisms to monitor the flow and quality of provider and patient care services.
    • Demonstrated ability in profiling operational programs and presenting process, results and recommendations to leadership.


    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelorâ™s degree in healthcare management or a related field.
    • 10 years of experience in a large multispecialty environment with knowledge of clinical service operations.

    Salary Range
    $94,100.00 - $165,600.00 / Annually

    The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
