The Department of Medicine has an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Dietitian 3. The Clinical Dietitian 3 provides nutrition services and medical nutrition therapy to patients in order to further their medical and personal goals. This position also provides leadership and oversight to less experienced staff and acts as a resource of knowledge regarding patient nutrition.

  • Confers  with  physicians  and  other  healthcare  professionals  to  coordinate  medical  and  nutritional  needs  of patients.

  • Assesses the nutritional needs of patients and develops and implements nutritional care plans.

  • Documents the nutritional status and needs of hospitalized and outpatients using established standards of care and practice guidelines.

  • Initiates and follows patients for nutrient intake analysis and makes recommendations for continuance progression or initiation of alternate therapies.

  • Writes orders for diet, supplement, enteral/parenteral nutrition and laboratory data per hospital policy.

  • Provides counseling and education to patients and their families regarding various topics in medical nutrition therapy and drug nutrient interaction.

  • Serves as a clinical nutrition resource and subject matter expert to physicians, patients, and staff.

  • Participates in departmental performance improvement activities and training.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS                                                                                                         

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience

  • Certification in relevant specialty or field. Licenses Dietitian/Nutritionists (LDN) by the Department of Health, Division of Medical Quality Assurance preferred.

  • Certification as a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) with the National Certification Board of Diabetes Educators (NCBDE) is preferred.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.

  • Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure.

  • Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.

  • Ability to understand and follow instructions.

  • Demonstrates the knowledge and experience in the principles, practices and procedures of the science of Dietetics required in conducting medical nutrition therapy and diabetes self- management education and support.

  • Thorough knowledge of Diabetes and Nutrition- such as diagnostics, classification, treatment and ability to apply same on an individual basis to patients.

  • Ability to exercise independent thought, judgement, decision making and flexibility.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely verbally and in writing.

  • The incumbent for this position will be responsible for providing nutritional and health assessments, nutritional care services, diabetes self-management education, insulin management and behavior change support for people living with diabetes.

  • Establishes treatment plans and communicates with patients regarding program compliance.

  • Documents all medical nutrition therapy and teaching activities in EMR system.s.

  • Participates in community outreach programs.
