Description
The Clinical Counselor provides counseling and related outreach services to UNE students.

Responsibilities
  • Provide direct service in the form of short-term individual, group counseling related to students’ personal, educational and career concerns.
  • Provide intake screening and assessment for clinical services.
  • Make referral to internal and external resources as appropriate.
  • Provide clinical/outreach services primarily to the Portland Campus.
  • Provide crisis intervention for critical incidents or individual clinical emergencies, i.e., provide short-term crisis therapy, assist in managing individuals, assess status for physicians, University officials, police and other service providers.
  • Provide documentation necessary to maintain case records.
  • Deliver psycho-educational outreach programming to support curriculum and Student Support Services mission.
  • Provide faculty/staff consultation as needed.
  • Meet current standards for licensure in respective profession.
  • Keep abreast of current developments in counseling theory and practice.
  • Engage in community service.
  • Serve on University committees.
  • Assist with grant writing and management of grants.
  • Perform related duties as needed.
Qualifications
Master’s Degree in counseling or closely related field, with appropriate internship, licensed (or license eligible) in the state of Maine, with at least one year of relevant counseling experience.
  • Prior college/University counseling experience preferred.
  • In-depth understanding of counseling theories and techniques as well as adolescent and emerging adult development theory with an emphasis on evidence supported treatment.
  • Adherence to American Counseling Association Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice.
  • Relevant training and experience as a generalist in short-term counseling, case management, group therapy, risk assessment and crisis intervention.
  • Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent counseling and advising skills specific to working with emerging adults and non-traditional aged college students’ issues (e.g., substance abuse, identity development, eating disorders, relationship issues, test anxiety, etc.).
  • Good teaching and group presentation skills.
  • Ability to develop and deliver outreach programming.
  • Some experience managing clinical documentation technology.
  • Some experience writing and managing grants.
  • Some training/experience related to career assessment and counseling.
  • Ability to travel to the Biddeford campus.
