Summary
Nurses in the Fetal Diagnosis and Treatment Center (FDTC) at the University of Michigan provide monitoring, treatment, education and support to mothers and families experiencing complications of pregnancy.

Responsibilities*
1. Provide expert nursing care to the complicated/high-risk antepartum patient, through individualized assessment, monitoring, evaluation, and antenatal testing.
2. Utilize effective therapeutic communication to maximize patient/family participation in decision-making and goal setting.
3. Facilitate communication and coordination of antepartum patient care needs within the FDTC, the Von Voigtlander Women?s Hospital and the health system.
4. Design, monitor and evaluate nursing care programs and individualized patient care plans for specified populations.
5. Provide liaison and consultation in the areas of clinical expertise across multiple clinical settings, disciplines and services; plan and facilitate multidisciplinary clinical care conferences prn.
6. Design, develop and maintain patient education resources and/or programs related to FDTC populations.
7. Proactively identify policy/procedure/guideline and staff education needs related to new/evolving patient population/condition/treatment/procedure.
8. Provide education to patients and families; teach/mentor students and colleagues.
9. Coordinate/facilitate research related to specified populations.
10. Participate in the development and maintenance of quality assurance and safety programs and activities as directed by unit leadership.
11. Represent the FDTC on unit, division, nursing, and system-wide committees as requested.
12. May cover other clinical care coordinators in the FDTC.

Hourly range for RSAM Registered Nurses $39.47 - $61.39 / hour
Evening Shift Differential-$3.00 / hour
Night Shift Differential- $4.00 / hour
Day Shift Weekend Differential- $2.90 / hour
Evening Shift Weekend Differential- $5.90 / hour
Night Shift Weekend Differential- $6.90 / hour
Charge Nurse Differential- $1.00 / hour

Required Qualifications*
Required Educational Requirement; applicant must meet one of the following:
Bachelor?s degree in Nursing OR
Associates degree or diploma in Nursing and a Master?s degree or higher in Nursing
Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan.
Minimum of 5 (five) years of current practice as an RN in an inpatient perinatal setting, including complex high-risk antenatal care.
Demonstrated competency in fetal monitoring interpretation; successful completion of the AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Course.
Demonstrated flexibility in workdays/hours.
Demonstrated ability to anticipate clinical patient care needs and to effectively collaborate with multiple individuals/disciplines while advocating for patient care needs/wishes in complex and controversial situations;
Demonstrated commitment to Family-Centered Care philosophy and to the mission/vision and values of UMHS.
Certification in limited Obstetric Ultrasound (if not certified, obtain by 12 months).
Maintaining competencies for required work.

Desired Qualifications*
Proficiency in the use of OBIX surveillance and documentation system, and ViewPoint reports.
Fetal monitoring certification.
Demonstrated consistently outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, including strong facilitative interpersonal skills with the ability to provide direct and effective feedback and ability to resolve conflict independently.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple and rapidly changing demands in an effective and professional manner;
Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, to both individuals and groups;
Demonstrated ability to work in an independent, self-directed manner that achieves reliable outcomes within pre-determined timelines;
Demonstrated knowledge of UMHS policies, procedures and practices.
Work Schedule
Hours: Generally M-F 28 hours/week option with variable/flexible scheduling to accommodate unit needs
Potential for some holidays/weekends
Union Affiliation
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Michigan Nurses Association and the U-M Professional Nurse Council union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
Background Screening
