Organizational Unit Overview
Internal Medicine is a department within the Division of Health Sciences and Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. The Department of Internal Medicine is comprised of ten divisions with over 85 full time faculty and 150 support staff members. Each of the divisions has its own specialty clinic.
Internal Medicine is home to seven fellowships and two residency programs. In recent years collaboration and funding have come from many national recognized organizations such as the National Institutes of Health, Health Resources and Service Administration, American Heart Association, NC Department of Human Health and Human Service. More locally, we have partnered with Vidant Medical Center Foundation, Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust, North Carolina Biotechnology Center, and the Pitt County Health Department. Additionally, Internal Medicine participates in many pharmaceutical sponsored clinical trials.
We collaborate with Department of Pediatrics, the Department of Surgery, and the Department of Cardiovascular Sciences within the Brody School of Medicine. The Department of Internal Medicine has a close affiliation with Vidant Medical Center and serves a diverse population in eastern North Carolina. Vidant Medical Center, a 974 bed tertiary care teaching facility, serves as the primary teaching and clinical care venue for an integrated nine hospital hub and spoke system. Job Duties
We have an exceptional opportunity to join our neurology division in the Department of Internal Medicine of the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. We are located in Greenville, North Carolina and serve a referral base of over 1.3 million people from a 29 county area in eastern North Carolina.
Our physicians enjoy a thriving ambulatory clinic as an integral part of the faculty practice plan, ECU Physicians. They hold clinical appointments in the Brody School of Medicine.
We are affiliated with Vidant Health and Vidant Medical Center which is a tertiary referral center including the newly built James and Connie Maynard Children’s Hospital which is an essential component of the medical center.
Additionally, the medical campus offers a 75 bed CARF accredited rehabilitation hospital and the East Carolina Heart Institute.
The neurology division, ECU Physicians Neurology, offers neurodiagnostic modalities including polysomnography, EMG, ENG, EEG, ultrasound and CT. ECU Physicians also owns and operates an ACR accredited MRI diagnostic imaging center.
The successful candidate will join our division with our existing two pediatric neurologists who share on call and hospital responsibilities.
Employment in this position provides eligibility to participate in the UNC Optional Retirement Program (ORP) which offers matching employer contributions and employee control of investment choices, along with eligibility to participate in various Voluntary Supplemental Retirement Plans (401k, 403b. 457).  This position is not eligible to participate in the NC Teachers’ and State Employees’ Retirement System (TSERS). Additionally, this position offers multiple voluntary options for Medical, Dental, Vision, and Life Insurance as well as various supplemental plans including Critical Illness, Flexible Spending Accounts, Cancer, and Disability.
Fixed-term or tenure-track position at the title/rank of Assistant Professor or higher available.
Minimum Education/Experience
The successful candidate’s credentials should include board certification/ board eligibility by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology with a certification in Pediatric Neurology; and a MD/DO from an appropriately accredited institution.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Board certification/Board Eligibility in Pediatrics would be a plus as would pertinent subspecialties.
