Position Description:

The University of Iowa College of Law invites applicants  for a faculty position in the law school’s in-house, live-client clinical program. We desire candidates with the experience and expertise to build-on the strengths of the clinic and/or to broaden our clinical offerings, with a particular interest in a human rights clinic.


Consistent with the mission and responsibilities of a top-tier public research university, we seek candidates who are experienced attorneys and teachers, and who will participate in the intellectual life of the college through scholarship, advocacy or community engagement.  In addition, we desire candidates with experience supervising international externship placements and a demonstrated ability to uphold a standard of cultural competence and respect for difference.


Successful candidates will be required to self-disclose any misconduct history or pending research misconduct investigation including but not limited to sexual misconduct in prior employment and provide a related release and will be subject to a criminal background and credential check.

Education Requirement:

  • J.D. degree

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience in teaching law to students, attorneys or other adult learners;

  • Three years of law-related professional experience (with a minimum of two years practice experience);

  • Admitted to practice in Iowa or a member of a state Bar in good standing and eligible for admission without examination under Iowa Supreme Court Rule 31.12.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated interest in clinical teaching, with a preference for human rights;

  • Legal supervisory experience in a practice or academic setting;

  • Experience supervising international externship placements;

  • Strong communication skills, particularly in practice-related writing (publications may also be examined when considering writing skills);

  • Strong academic record;

  • Demonstrated ability to uphold a standard of cultural competence and respect for difference through effective relationships with diverse students, faculty, staff, community members, and/or clients.
