Clinical Assistant Professor in UX Design

Job Summary:

The Department of Computer Graphics Technology (CGT) at Purdue University has a full-time opening on the West Lafayette, Indiana campus, beginning in August 2024 for a Clinical Assistant Professor in UX Design.

 

CGT is one of six units in the Purdue Polytechnic Institute that offers a BS and MS in Computer Graphics Technology and participates in the Polytechnic Institute PhD program. CGT balances undergraduate and graduate education with a strong research and engagement agenda. For additional information, please see: https://polytechnic.purdue.edu/cgt . The department includes majors in game development, animation and visual effects, and web programming & design, data visualization, and UX design. Students in the UX design program engage in human-centered design work through a vertically integrated curriculum and build a demonstrated ability to work in teams using excellent oral and written communication skills. The undergraduate program in UX Design was started in 2015 and provides studio-based education for a comprehensive BS degree that support a range of HCI and UX-focused careers.


Responsibilities:

The successful candidate for this position will teach and develop undergraduate and graduate courses, conduct research, mentor and advise students, and perform service for the department, university, and discipline. The candidate will develop and/or teach a variety of courses including but not limited to studios focused on UX skills development and UX practice. This is a teaching-oriented position that is intensely oriented toward active learning approaches. As such, candidates must be committed to innovative undergraduate and graduate teaching, maintaining an inclusive and diverse learning environment, curriculum/program building, service to the UX community, and supporting the UX practice focused industry engagement experience studio courses, https://engineering.purdue.edu/ExStudio/ . The candidate is expected to embed AI technologies into some of their courses. The candidate may also be expected to teach course content in their area of expertise to students from other majors.


Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have a master's or doctorate in a field related to human-computer interaction, user experience design, or related field completed by the start date. Focus areas may include human-centered design, user experience design, service design, interaction design, tangible embodied interaction, interactive media development, visualization, social computing, socio-technical systems, UX strategy, and/or project management. Candidates should have industry practice and/or a record of teaching with industry engagement.
