Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Environmental Finance Center (EFC) is a regional center that provides communities with the tools and information necessary to manage change for a healthy environment and an enhanced quality of life. Our mission is to protect natural resources and watersheds by strengthening the capacity of local decision-makers to analyze environmental problems, develop innovative and effective methods of financing environmental efforts, and educate communities about the role of finance and economic development in the protection of the environment.
The primary responsibility of this position will be to support EFC’s expanding climate program by assisting the Climate and Sustainability Program Director in co-leading the delivery of climate projects, supporting program expansion, providing direct technical assistance to communities, and coordinating outreach efforts. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of climate change (mitigation, adaptation, and/or resilience), local government operations, successful customer service experience, and a passion for working collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams. This position will focus on the following tasks and responsibilities:
Research and Content Development
● Maintain a broad understanding of current regulatory and policy issues and best practices related to climate mitigation, adaptation, and community resilience.
● Research existing and upcoming funding opportunities for climate and energy projects.
● Design and deliver broad-reaching education and training such as webinars, workshops, and online courses.
● Produce original technical resource guides, fact sheets, case stories, and templates and tools.
● Conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis on issues including energy, resilience, finance, and sustainability.
Technical Assistance
● Assist local governments in identifying a portfolio of climate-related projects.
● Provide local governments with grant identification and writing support.
● Deploy and manage technical partners to provide early-stage design of climate-related projects.
Coordination & Facilitation
● Coordinate and facilitate in-person and online events such as webinars, workshops, project site visits, and conferences.
● Coordinate and facilitate stakeholder, partner, and team meetings.
● Lead convenings for community stakeholder engagement, local government planning, and group decision-making processes.
Community Outreach and Engagement
● Design and implement community outreach and education campaigns related to climate mitigation, adaptation, and resiliency, and/or related issues.
● Conduct and facilitate interviews, surveys, focus groups, and community and partner meetings.
● Represent EFC at various events and functions, in-person and online.
Program Development
● Work with existing partners and sponsors.
● Help build partnerships and develop relationships to enhance the technical resources and knowledge available to local communities.
● Research funding opportunities related to a variety of issues encompassing climate action and sustainability.
● Co-lead in the development of climate-related proposals.
Administrative Tasks
● Manage grant applications and awards per funder and University guidelines.
Ensure the timely completion of administrative related tasks, reports, and other deliverables for assigned projects.
|Salary: $65,000 to $80,000, commensurate with experience

Minimum Qualifications:
  • A Master’s degree in environmental science, energy and climate, community planning, public policy, public sector finance, economics or similar with a minimum of five years work experience in a related field. Bachelor’s degree with 10 or more years of work experience in a related field may also be considered.
  • At least five years of experience working at the community level with local governments, homeowners associations, schools, business, faith-based institutions, and/or community-based organizations, particularly as it relates to climate change and environmental justice.
  • Demonstrated understanding of, and experience with, climate adaptation mitigation and resilience, particularly at the community level.
  • Demonstrated understanding of, and experience with, environmental justice issues and engaging underserved communities.
  • Strong program and/or project management skills.
  • Demonstrated experience/ability to identify, pursue, and secure state, federal, and/or private funding related to environmental issues including energy, climate resilience, and community sustainability.
  • Demonstrated experience/ability to build partnerships and develop relationships with a diverse group of organizations, including local, state, and federal agencies, non-profits, private businesses, and others.
  • Experience writing policy briefs, fact sheets, and guidance documents.
  • Experience coordinating and facilitating meetings, webinars, virtual workshops and in-person events.

  • Familiarity with a wide array of climate-related issues and practices including building decarbonization, carbon sequestration, resilience hubs, electric vehicles, energy finance, public sector budgeting, local economies, green procurement, community carbon footprints, and community resilience.
  • Familiarity with state and federal grant processes and structure such as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (IIJA funding), the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund, and Green Banks.
