Tracking Code: 24500619710406
Job Description
The Equal Opportunity Office ('EOO') is committed to fostering an inclusive campus environment free from discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct. In support of this mission, we're seeking a candidate driven to collaborate, committed to building, engaging with and sustaining a welcoming campus community over the long-term, and ambition to develop subject matter expertise.
The primary responsibility of the Civil Rights Investigator is to conduct prompt, thorough, and impartial investigations into reports of harassment, discrimination, sexual misconduct, and retaliation against faculty, staff, affiliates, and non-affiliates at Boston University pursuant to University policy as well as state and federal law. This includes collecting information in an efficient and supportive manner, composing a clear final report detailing the information obtained, and applying logical reasoning to make findings of fact and responsibility in accordance with University standards.
In addition to formal investigations, the Investigator will facilitate informal resolution to help prevent behaviors from reoccurring and bridge the gap between intention and impact. The Investigator will also support the development and delivery of education and prevention programs and work collaboratively with campus partners to promote the EOO mission and build trust with campus constituents.

A cover letter is required for consideration.

  • Master's Degree in higher education student affairs, social work, conflict resolution, counseling, JD, or a related field with three to five years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience with problem-solving and conflict resolution.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and sensitivity to meeting the needs of individuals from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Ability to remain neutral and objective while handling highly sensitive and confidential information with discretion and compassion.
  • High level of personal and professional ethics.
  • Experience collecting information in a way that is both efficient and people-oriented (i.e., trauma informed and supportive).
  • Proficient ability to effectively facilitate verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to draft thorough and detailed reports by applying logical reasoning to assess complex information.
  • Ability to act both independently and collaboratively and to exercise sound judgment.
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to manage time and tasks effectively, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain detailed records.
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and apply University policies as well as a general understanding of Title IX, Title VII, and the ADA.
  • Openness to receiving and giving feedback and suggestions from/to other team members in service of ongoing improvement and learning.
