Job Description:

ENGINEERING CONSULTATION - Provides consultation, coordination, and professional oversight
by reviewing, and approving the work of external engineering design and planning consultants of new
capital projects ranging from new buildings, major renovations, and district energy system improvements.
Works as a team member with all architectural and engineering disciplines within Facilities Engineering to
ensure that internal and external engineering designs are consistent with contract specifications, the
University design and construction standards and all relevant regulations and engineering standards.
Coordinates building and utility project turnover at the completion of capital construction, inclusive of driving
and accepting third-party administered start-up and commissioning. Assists the university and department
groups in resolving specific Civil infrastructure construction issues. Performs hydraulic analysis, pump
station design, utility pipeline design, bridge assessments, and field data collection as required.

DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT - Creates, Maintains and Updates the University’s
Design and Construction Standards inclusive of standard details for all areas within the Civil Engineering
discipline. Standards development includes incorporating building and utility operational feedback, iterative
updates based on Florida Building Code, and standards revisions, and coaching other University
departments, design consultants, construction companies, vendors, and end-users on standards
adherence.

PROJECT PLANNING, DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION – Assists with planning, developing, and
implementation of a five-year financial plan for required building and infrastructure updates through the
coordination with building, utilities and energy operational staff and outside departments to advance and
coordinate future planned work. This work shall include planning for future operational issues, coordinating
and prioritizing future construction, renovation, and repair work, collecting, and analyzing data as required,
and reviewing and developing deferred maintenance projects. Projects may require that the Engineer
serves as a project manager on engineering design projects through setting project expectation and
ensuring compliance with project objectives and engineering standards or may require the engineer to
produce calculations, designs and implementation strategies within the requisite discipline to be utilized
directly by in-house maintenance crews. Creates Utility Impact Assessments for university projects of size.

COST ESTIMATION – Utilizes cost estimation techniques commensurate with required level of detail
for the development of the following types of estimates: Informational Budget Estimate, Job Cost Not to
Exceed and Construction Quotes. Advises project stakeholders and Director of Facilities Energy and
Engineering in potential project decisions that drives costs in construction, renovation and repair work and
offers value engineering solutions that do not compromise the useable lifetime of an asset or create a
variance from accepted university design and construction standards.

A criminal background will be conducted.

Work hours 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Monday through Friday. Work hours and days
may vary with assignments, workload, and scheduled construction activities and may on occasion be on-
call for utility emergencies or adverse weather conditions.

Minimum Requirements:

A high school diploma or equivalent and eight years of appropriate experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and four years of relevant experience; or Master's degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Civil engineering
Professional Engineering License
Training and experience in construction of facilities and utility systems
Previous project design, management responsibility for projects in excess of $4 million.
Computer skills in Microsoft Office Applications
Knowledge of design software such as BIM, Revit, and AutoCAD
Knowledge of construction process, techniques, and methods
Certified LEED AP Certification
Project Management Professional Certification
Building Commissioning Professional Certification
