Department Summary
The CityLab and Watershed Access labs offer single day experiences on and off campus in STEM disciplines to school groups, elementary, middle and high school. These programs allows students to work as scientists and are designed to inspire students about science while providing them with the foundations necessary for further scientific exploration. Students are immersed in science content and conduct hands-on investigations in each module.
Position Summary
The CityLab/Watershed Access Lab Outreach Educator will administer the curriculum for modules in CASE outreach programs to participants. During this experience, educators will instruct participants on the background curriculum, laboratory techniques and instrument use. They will also be tasked with maintaining order within the laboratory. In addition, the educator may participate in off-site traveling field trips where they would be tasked with administering curriculum in the same way but outside of the BSU campus. They will work with and instruct CASE student instructors, who will provide support to the instructor during the class.
The CityLab/Watershed Access Lab Outreach Educator may work with CASE administrators and faculty to develop, refine, align, and test curriculum for use in CASE outreach programs, including the CASE Science Academy, daily visits to BSU for hands-on STEM activities, professional development workshops, traveling field trips, and any other CASE initiative.
This is an excellent position for a recently retired educator with experience working with middle school students since most of our visitors come from local middle schools.
Hours vary depending on school visits. Typical shifts are 5 hours per day when there are visiting school groups only. There is no set schedule as schedules change depending on requests. Number of days available is flexible. Work as few shifts as you like, as few as 1 shift a week.

Essential Duties
-Administer instruction and equipment demonstration for elementary, middle and high school students participating in CityLab/Watershed Access Lab programs as well as other CASE events.
-Assist with setup, breakdown and cleanup of materials for CityLab/Watershed Access Lab programs.
-Aid in curriculum development and refinement and lesson standard alignment for CASE programs.
Required Qualifications
Experience instructing elementary, middle or high school students but middle school is most important; strong understanding of topics taught in CityLab and Watershed outreach programs; strong classroom management skills; ability to work with students with varied learning abilities; attention to detail; reliability; ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Experience with Microsoft Office. Bachelor’s degree required.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with gel electrophoresis, spectrophotometer, micropipitting, and the scientific method
