Position Summary Information


Objective
Serve as the director of choral ensembles and teach other music courses as assigned to maintain faculty load.
Essential Duties
1- Maintain the day-to-day operations of the institution including but not limited to:
a. Maintain regular office hours as set by the college;
b. Serve institutional committee when elected or appointed;
c. Prepare course syllabi and formulate stated objectives for each course;
d. Submit reports to administrative officials as required;
e. Provide a grade evaluation on each student’s performance in a fashion and frequency required by the College;
f. Make recommendations to the Assistant Dean and Dean regarding curriculum additions, deletions, and revisions.
g. Be a member, representing Blinn College, of outside professional organizations.
h. Comply with all Board policies and administrative procedures.
2. Serve as the director of choral ensembles
3. Teach other assigned music classes as per the needs of the department/division
4. Work in conjunction with Assistant Choir Director/Director of Vocal Studies on preparations for summer choir camp rehearsals as well as in repertoire selection for all large ensembles
5. Maintain open and constant communication with Assistant Choir Director/Director of Vocal Studies
6. Lead in planning and execution of all choir-related contests and events
Recruit incoming students for the upcoming year. This may include, but not be limited to, phone/email correspondence with high school directors and students and scheduling visits to Blinn College campus for students
7. Hear auditions for incoming choir students as needed and serve on scholarship committee.
8. Assist Director of Vocal Studies with assignment of students to appropriate vocal studio teacher and planning of weekly vocal master class.
Assist with planning of choir-related travel and make recommendations for supplies in conjunction with Performing Arts Dept. Head.
9. Be a member, representing Blinn College, of outside professional organizations including, but not limited to, Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) and Texas Two Year College Choral Directors Association, and serve on committees as assigned.
10. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. Master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in music from an accredited institution
2. Experience in secondary or post-secondary, community, or professional choral conducting
3. Performance and/or teaching experience
4. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the other instructors, staff, administration, and students
5. Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of choir literature and methods, both in execution as well as current practices and trends
6. Ability to run effective and safe rehearsals/practices
7. Proficiency in piano playing
8. In-depth knowledge of the choral literature
Preferred Experience and Training
1. Recruitment and program development experience preferred
2. Public school and/or college choral teaching experience strongly preferred
3. Two years secondary or post-secondary teaching experience or comparable military experience preferred
4. Knowledge of foreign languages such as French, Italian, and German
5. Knowledge and application of safe/healthy vocal practices for college-age students
Physical Requirements
Ability to walk, light lifting (under 15 lbs.), moderate carrying (15-44 lbs.), repeated bending, reaching above shoulder, standing, sitting, climbing stairs, operating motor vehicle, seeing, hearing (without aid), writing, and reading
Required Degree, License or Certifications
Master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in music from an accredited institution. Must submit official transcripts.
