At Cedars-Sinai, the Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute doesn't treat all cancers the same. There are more than 20 cancer centers, programs or specialized services that specialize in treatment and groundbreaking research into specific forms of cancer. These centers and programs provide patient centered care and innovative diagnostic, therapeutic and surgical procedures. At the Department of Radiation Oncology, our oncologists, therapists and staff work together to design custom treatment plans for specific cancer diagnoses. This ensures the patient will more quickly feel normal, with minimal impact on healthy tissues from the effects of radiation. 

Summary of Essential Duties:

The Chief Radiation Therapist is a proficient and experienced Allied Health Professional who is responsible for overseeing the technical and therapeutic work associated with radiation treatment delivery across all sites. The Chief Therapist ensures quality control and medical equipment maintenance, ensures appropriate staffing levels, implements and standardizes workflows, and assists with expense control across sites. You will collaborate with administration, physics, nursing, physicians, and support staff to identify safety concerns and to improve processes and procedures. Additionally, the Chief Radiation Therapist directly supervises the Lead Radiation Therapists, Senior Radiation Therapists, and Radiation Therapists at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center Radiation Oncology site and partners with the Lead Radiation Therapist at other sites to accomplish goals. 

  • Performs accurate and efficient radiation therapy treatment simulations as prescribed by a Radiation Oncologist. This includes proper use of simulator, fabrication of immobilization devices and various treatment devices such as bite block and custom bolus cut outs
  • Delivers accurate, efficient, and reproducible radiation therapy treatments. This includes operation of linear accelerator, verifying treatment plan prior to treatment, proper patient positioning, and monitoring of patient during procedure 
  • Responsible for maintaining medical equipment. Ensures that all quality control procedures are consistent across sites, and that they meet accreditation and regulatory standards. Trouble shoots issues and reports problems to Physics 
  • Performs all special treatment procedures; Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS), Stereotactic Radiation Therapy (SRT), Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT), Brachytherapy 
  • Leads departmental planning and preparation for all regulatory and safety surveys across sites 
  • Evaluates work performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions to service line manager 

Education: 

  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • Graduate of an ARRT approved radiation therapy program required

License/Certifications: 
  • ARRT certification in Radiation Therapy required
  • California Therapeutic Radiation Technologist certification required
  • BLS from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross required

Experience: 
  • 10 years of experience as a Radiation Therapist required
  • 3 years of supervisory experience required, preferably in a hospital environment
