In partnership with the Associate Vice Chancellor (AVC), the Chief Operating Officer & Executive Director develops divisional policies and authorizes their implementation. Provides advice, guidance, and assistance to the AVC and may also support members of management team. Represents the organization in location-wide and systemwide meetings and discussions. Recognized as an influential leader. Makes final decisions for the organization and ensures achievement of objectives. Erroneous decisions will have a serious impact on the overall success of division.
Will be assigned highly sensitive projects involving areas of the division that need support or special skills to navigate the University to accomplish broad objectives. May be placed in charge of various departments in order to advance their development.
Responsible for determining which areas of the division would benefit from shared services. Evaluates and determines staffing, implements reorganizations, and monitors progress. Oversees all administrative, financial, communications, and human resource areas of the division. Manages a total staff of 25+ through 3-4 subordinate chiefs, directors or associate/assistant directors. Serves as liaison to the Office of the Senior Vice Chancellor, the FAS Finance Service Center, and IT resources housed in the ITS Department.
Serves as an organizational, administrative, financial, and strategic partner to the AVC, and also to the CLS Executive Team (CLSET), consisting of two Assistant Vice Chancellors, two Executive Directors, and other management staff. Serves on the CLSET. Ensures the effective management of the AVC Immediate Office. Serves as a member and leader of the CLSET. Finds and achieves consensus among the CLSET.
