The Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) oversees all activities related to the administration of the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics (DEB), including financial, personnel, systems, program and project, and facilities management. The CAO ensures compliance with University policies and procedures. Responsible for hiring and retaining a well-trained, efficient, and customer service-oriented staff, the CAO is also responsible for the careful management of the Department's equipment and space assets. Additionally, the CAO plays a leadership role in the department, serving as a member of the department's leadership team, alongside the vice chairs of the department, providing advice and support for the development and implementation of strategic plans and helping to set and develop infrastructure to support the scientific and programmatic direction of the department.
The CAO participates in immediate and long-term planning for the DEB to maximize limited resources and increase opportunities for the faculty members to focus on their research programs and teaching responsibilities. The CAO has the ability to direct, plan, budget, and implement small to large-scale projects and programs within complex organizational infrastructures. The CAO establishes and maintains timely and appropriate reporting mechanisms for the chair regarding fiscal, personnel, and other critical management areas. Exhibiting a highly collaborative ethos, the CAO serves as a liaison between other departments and ORUs, other University offices, and extramural organizations, and serves on DEB, SOM, and university advisory committees.
The CAO reports directly to the chair with a dotted line relationship to the School of Medicine Vice Dean of Administration and Finance.
