Cheng Lab - Full Specialist
Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics
UC San Francisco
The Cheng Lab is recruiting at the Full rank in the Specialist series to carry out a research project aiming to elucidate structural mechanisms of integrin avb8 and avb6 mediated L-TGF-b activation, and to develop technology to study interactions between full length avb8 and L-TGF-b/GARP embedded in lipid environment by cryo-EM, both single particle and electron tomography. Other research activities include structural, biochemical and functional characterization of antibodies developed against integrins.
Required Qualifications:
- PhD (or equivalent degree) in structural biology or related field or ten or more years of experience in the relevant specialization.
- 4+ years of postdoctoral training experience.
- Proficiency in:
- Molecular biology,
- Protein expression using various expression systems including mammalian, bacterial, insect and yeast,
- Protein biochemistry,
- All aspects of single particle electron microscopy (including sample preparation for negative stain and cryo-EM, operating electron microscopes, and acquiring high-quality cryo-EM data, and using various single particle cryo-EM image processing packages for high-resolution structure determination),
- Atomic model building and refinement based on cryo-EM density maps, and
- Extending and integrating structural analyses of integrin.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 4+ years postdoctoral training experience in a laboratory that specializes in structural biology of membrane proteins with extensive flexibility.
- Preference will be given to candidates with hands-on experience in structural biology integrins and/or related molecules.
See Table 24B for the salary range for this position. A reasonable estimate for this position is $86,900-$181,800.
