Position Summary
The Department of Communicative Disorders at Jackson State University invites applications for the position of Department Chair. The Chair has the responsibility for providing leadership towards the achievement of the highest possible level of excellence in the teaching, research, and service activities of the department.

Qualifications


Minimum Required Education
Doctorate in Communication Sciences and Disorders or a closely related discipline.
Minimum Required Experience
A minimum of 3 years of academic leadership and academic program assessment experience.
Minimum Required Licenses and/or Certifications
The certificate of clinical competence, awarded by the American Speech-Language, Hearing Association in speech-language pathology or audiology, is preferred.
Qualifications
  • The successful candidate will lead and enhance the teaching, research, and service mission of the Department in collaboration with faculty, staff, and students.
  • A demonstrated record in academic leadership, including experience with budgeting and resource allocation, academic program assessment, as well as hiring, developing, and supervising faculty and staff.
  • An established record of excellence in scholarship, extramural research funding, teaching and experience educating diverse students is important.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Report to the Dean of the College of Health Sciences
  • Represent and advocate for the interests of faculty, staff, and students to the Dean, the University, and the community.
  • Advance core values, including trust, fairness, and accountability.
  • Demonstrate shared departmental commitment to equity, access, and inclusion.
  • Manage and allocate department budget and resources.
  • Oversee the growth of departmental external funding portfolio.
  • Supervise academic program review.
  • Serve as the graduate program director for the accredited graduate program.
  • Oversee the quality of instruction, credit hour production, and class assignment.
  • Evaluate faculty annually, for promotion and tenure.
  • Oversee faculty hiring and development.
  • Engage in strategic planning for the department and college.
  • Teach or supervise, as needed.
