Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Restorative Sciences Department is an internationally recognized group of oral health professionals that combines three divisions consisting of general dentistry, operative dentistry, and prosthodontics. The department supports the dental education program, advanced education programs in prosthodontics and general dentistry along with master’s degree programs (including operative dentistry), community service and outreach, faculty practice and scholarship activities.
Position Summary
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Adams School of Dentistry seeks an accomplished and dedicated leader to serve as Chair, Department of Restorative Sciences. The ideal candidate is an outstanding leader that will direct a high-performing and passionate department in our education, patient care, community service and research missions. The successful candidate will be eligible to participate in the intramural Dental Faculty Practice. Other requirements include demonstration of excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong interpersonal, organizational and problem-solving skills; skills in teaching and mentoring students and faculty; a strong history of clinical excellence; a strong history and continued interest in research and productive scholarship and a minimum of five years of leadership and/or administrative supervisory experience. In addition to a primary faculty appointment in the Restorative Sciences Department in either a full-time fixed-term track or tenure/tenure track position, the selected candidate will hold a secondary, at will administrative assignment as Department Chair reporting to the Dean. Faculty rank and track will be determined once the top candidate is identified.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Minimum qualifications include Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS), Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD), or equivalent dental degree, and at least five years of leadership and/or administrative supervisory experience in the restorative sciences. The candidate must be eligible for dental licensure in NC or NC Instructor’s License, and evidence of scholarship to qualify for an appointment at the associate or full professor level. Rank and salary will be commensurate with education, experience and academic accomplishments.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Board certification, if relevant, is preferred along with experience with CODA accreditation.

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
