Ceramic Materials Researcher – Institute for Nuclear Security

The Institute for Nuclear Security within the Nuclear Engineering Department at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville is seeking applications for an experimental materials, ceramic, mining, or glass engineer.  The engineer will provide professional and lead technical support to research programs and projects, perform a variety of structured research-related work assignments and independently conducts fundamental aspects of a research project as directed, by following established protocol or using methods previously established, support an ongoing research program in materials processing, and provide leadership, management, and safety oversight to students and technicians working in the laboratories.  Additionally, the engineer's actions are to be guided by schedules, due dates, and clear deliverables, their work will be performed under structured guidance and will be checked for compliance with protocols/plans and will be expected to make some independent judgments and decisions such as recommending experiment or design modifications.

 

Qualifications

 

 

Minimum degree requirement is a B.S. in materials, ceramic, mining, or glass engineering, and three years of relevant technical experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and specific experience with:

 

·       ceramic particle size reduction,

·       ceramic particle separation practices,

·       ceramic powder characterization,

·       data reduction and analysis, and its reporting,

·       experimental design,

·       managing equipment maintenance and calibrations, and

·       specifying equipment requirements with vendors and managing all aspects of the acquisition including coordinating installation with facility Crafts.
