Job Summary

Department Purpose

The Internship and Career Center (ICC), a dynamic team, providing innovative and comprehensive career services with a commitment to equitable access, has campus- wide responsibility for developing experiential education opportunities and for providing support for the career exploration and development process to students. This includes part time employment, career planning, academic internships, other forms of experiential learning and career employment (or graduate school acceptance) upon graduation with a goal that students are employed in positions commensurate with their world-class education.

Job Summary

Under general supervision of Associate Director, provides professional advising to students concerning internships (experiential education) and career planning and placement related to opportunities in liberal arts and business including in the areas of law and policy, education, counseling, communication, media and arts, a focus on business. Establishes and maintains relationships with off-campus employers, UC Davis faculty, staff, and Student Affairs administrators to develop internship and career opportunities for students primarily in business. Develops and presents customized workshops, instructional offerings and information meetings related to internship and career services to audiences ranging in size from several to hundreds . Assists with the collection and reporting of program area and Center-wide data.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Work occasional evenings/nights, overtime, and weekends, usually on short notice to

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education/Experience:           

  • Experience teaching and/or conducting workshops or presenting information in small and a large group settings (200+) for students and employers.
  • Experience in the development of experiential education programs including working with host sites or employers. Experience designing, organizing and delivering career service programs such as networking events and employer information sessions.
  • Demonstrated advising experience. Skills to advise students and alumni in liberal arts and business concerning their career goals, career planning, experiential education, labor market information, and placement into internship, FWS, part time and career positions.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) :

  • Knowledge of employment options and specific requirements for employment in business. Skills to network, build and maintain relationships with alumni and employers in business sector. Skill to develop and maintain internship positions in the public, private and non-profit sectors for undergraduate and graduate students in liberal arts and business.
  • Written and oral communication skills to respond to stakeholders on behalf of the Internship and Career Center, and assist students with writing for the job search (cover letters, resumes, LinkedIn profiles, etc.). Skills to respond to needs of ethnically and culturally diverse students and alumni, as well as sensitivity to the needs of underrepresented students and scholars in general.
  • Skills to thrive and make meaningful contributions in a collaborative environment; skills to work well with others, and flexibility to contribute daily to programmatic and Center-wide activities. Skills to give guidance, train, and evaluate performance of peer advisors
  • Skills to design own professional development program for growth in areas relating to career services delivery.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Education/Experience:            

  • Experience teaching in a university setting
  • Demonstrated experience developing, approving and maintaining internships in the public, private and non-profit sectors for students interested in business.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) :

  • Familiarity with the use of LinkedIn, Facebook and other technology tools for marketing, research, communication, and job search.
