Position Summary:
 
Guided by the philosophy that career development is a lifelong process of exploration and decision making, the Career Development Team for the Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences (ICS) provides comprehensive career and professional development services designed to empower students and recent graduates in making informed career decisions. We support students to develop career readiness skills, refine career goals, and build professional networks through strategic coordination of services and effective partnerships with faculty, staff, employers and alumni. Utilizing a theoretical understanding of career development, advises graduate students and alumni in the Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences (ICS), with primary emphasis on Master of Computer Science (MCS), Master of Software Engineering (MSWE), Master of Data Science (MDS), and Master of Human Computer Interaction and Design (MHCID). Provides a full range of services to support students’ career development and outcomes, improve internship / job search competencies through individual and group coaching, facilitating in-person (on-campus) and virtual (via Zoom) career-oriented workshops and programming, including summer experiential learning courses, reviewing Curricular Practical Training (CPT) petitions, and creating career development tools and resources. Uses quantitative and qualitative assessments to help students assess career opportunities and goals. Supports students with decision making, goal setting, action planning and identifying internal/external obstacles to obtaining career goals. Engages employer community to participate in career-related programming. Performs duties to support employer engagement initiatives, including organizing and coordinating industry and alumni panels, networking, engagement and recruitment events, mentorship programs, internship support, social media engagement to foster community and long-term employer engagement, etc. Maintains career services management platform (12Twenty), including data collection, data management, analysis, and reporting, including student participation in career activities and employment outcomes. Performs employer tracking and maintain employer/contacts database on 12Twenty. Provides job market expertise through ongoing research, professional development, and interactions with students, alumni and industry professionals. Research, evaluate and update career and educational resources. Supports programs with alumni and career related programming. Receives guidance from Career Development Manager.

$26.92 - $31.60 (Hourly Rate) Expected Pay Range within the Full Salary Range $26.92 - $46.36 (Hourly Rate)


 


Required:
  • 2+ years of experience in career development, talent development, employer relations, university relations, technical recruiting or equivalent experience/training. 
  • Experience with career services management platforms (e.g. 12Twenty, Handshake) 
  • Experience with customer relationship management (CRM) platform(s)
  • Advanced degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Knowledge of career development theories, adult development theory, counseling processes, career coaching techniques, career decision making, learning styles, and job search techniques. 
  • Basic knowledge of UC programs, career services, recruiting and staffing methods, and employment trends. 
  • Ability to use computer systems and applications, with strong presentation skills, verbal communication, and written communication. 
  • Ability to work with people with diverse backgrounds, including international constituents. 
  • Knowledge of principles of employment techniques such as the teaching of job search strategies, resume preparation, interviewing and networking skills. 
  • Experience in alumni tracking, alumni relations and engagement. Experience in data collection, management and analysis. 
  • Knowledge of methods and techniques to facilitate student/alumni engagement and outreach activities, including creating web and email content for mass audience. Able to work in a lean team, work independently and creatively to follow through on assignments in a timely manner and with minimal direction. 
  • Ability to critique resumes, cover letters, and other application materials. 
  • Ability to implement individual and group career advising skills applicable to graduate students. 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, with strong planning and organization skills. 
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with a variety of stakeholders, such as campus staff, faculty, student groups, alumni and employers. 
  • Must be able to appropriately represent the University and its students to the alumni and employment community


 


Preferred:
 
Experience in technology-related and/or STEM career development and/or talent recruitment and acquisition.
