Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The College of Engineering and Technology (CET) consists of four academic departments (Computer Science, Construction Management, Engineering, and Technology Systems), the Student Success Center, and the Center for Sustainable Energy and Environmental Engineering. Enrolling nearly 3,000 students, the CET and its departments offer nine BS degree programs, nine MS degree programs, multiple graduate certificates, and participation in a multi-university PhD consortium program. In addition to teaching and curriculum development, the college’s nearly 130 faculty and staff engage in fundamental and applied research, professional and community service, and local and regional industry support. The Student Success Center (SSC) collaborates with departments and programs to provide holistic support, advice, and counseling to all CET students. The SSC includes a subsidiary office, the Career Development and Leadership Center (CDLC), providing career counseling and other services to engage students in career exploration, professional development, and job searching leading to internship and post-graduation employment.
Job Duties
This temporary position will fulfill the job duties of career advisor, collaborate with CET faculty and staff on development of action plans to expand student engagement in career exploration and development, and engage in research to identify best practices for an expanded alumni and peer mentoring program focused on career exploration. A CET Director of Industry Relations will serve as supervisor for this temporary position. Specific duties and percentages are as follows:
Career Advisor (50%)
· Coach and/or advise undergraduate, graduate students, and alumni to provide career and major exploration, resume, and cover letter review, mock interviews, job search strategies, and general professional development.
· Identify and provision access to career exploration resources to help students find the most appropriate fit for an academic major/minor and related careers.
· Facilitate classroom presentations and activities around a large variety of career development and professional development topics.
· Assist SSC staff by participating in all scheduled Summer Orientation sessions for new students, introducing them to the CDLC, its mission and services.
· Other duties as may be assigned by supervisor or designee.
Career Exploration and Professional Development Research (25%)
· Carry out research to identify current trends and best practices in career development to inform the development of the college’s strategic action plans for expanding student engagement in career exploration and professional development
· Collaborate with CET and SSC faculty and staff to develop and implement action plans for expanding student engagement in career exploration and professional development
Develop and Implement Pilot Program for Alumni/Peer Educator Program (25%)
· Carry out research to identify best practices in existing programs at other universities for an alumni and student-staffed career coaching and mentoring program
· Collaborate with CET and SSC faculty and staff to develop and implement action plans to launch the “CS Career Development Program”, an alumni/peer educator pilot program in the Department of Computer Science focused on expanding student engagement in career exploration and professional development
· Assist departments in developing and updating alumni and industry partner databases integrated with the college’s CRM (Salesforce) in support of the pilot program(s)
Minimum Education/Experience
Master’s degree from an appropriately accredited university
Documented experience in career advising in a college/university setting
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
· Knowledge of employer recruitment strategies, job market trends, occupational, career and employment information sources
· Experience in Career Services, Advising, Residence Life, Enrollment Management or other student related area in higher education.
· Ability to interact with a diverse student, staff, and faculty population.
· Demonstrated skill in establishing effective working relationships with staff of all levels, faculty, academic personnel, employers, and alumni.
· Experience and proficiency with incorporating the use of technology to deliver services.
· Excellent writing, presentation, and organizational skills preferred.
