SUMMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Business Systems Administrator works to maximize the effectiveness of the University’s business and physical security information systems through management of mission-critical information systems: ecosystems in the realms of the UMass Pass campus card, physical security, campus scheduling, parking and transportation, and food service operations. The incumbent oversees all hardware and software integrations in the context of these systems and serves as a liaison to other departments, providing technical analysis of business needs and recommending system solutions. The Business Systems Administrator coordinates procurement specifications, installations, and issues resolutions with third-party providers for related systems. The incumbent ensures proper integration of systems into the University environment in a safe and secure manner and supports systems running on Microsoft Windows, SQL databases, and embedded systems such as point of sale terminals and related hardware. The incumbent actively seeks improvements in their daily workflows and processes to improve efficiency and provides excellent customer service to our campus community in support of the academic and research mission at UMass Dartmouth.

EXAMPLES OF PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages the Lenel OnGuard physical access and security ecosystem with related hardware integrations.
  • Acts as systems administrator for dining and one card systems, currently Atrium and Infor
  • Serves as the liaison between project management, business units, and other information technology units for upgrades, expansions, migrations and implementations for those areas.
  • Performs maintenance and configuration of all the systems of responsibility.
  • Maintains, monitors, troubleshoots, and develops interfaces between the systems of responsibility, ERPs and related third party systems ensuring data consistency requirements are met.
  • Provides and/or coordinates technical support for the business units of supported information systems and related business applications and coordinates training with vendors.
  • Contributes to the design of Lenel security system expansions and translates access policies into Lenel configuration settings for doors, card readers, cameras, etc.
  • Assists with reporting needs in supported platforms and business applications.
  • Exercises a high degree of independent judgement and initiative in anticipating, troubleshooting, analyzing, and resolving hardware and software problems.
  • Ensures systems comply with PCI and industry standards as well as UMass policies for security, operation, and access; operates with an understanding of FERPA regulations as it relates to student records.
  • Participates in software and hardware purchasing decisions and RFP development for business systems.
  • Performs software maintenance on related information systems not covered by a third-party contract.
  • Works collaboratively with constituents on campus and within the UMass system to align systems with current and future business processes.
  • Participates in system testing and periodic system cleanup activities.
  • Develops and maintains systems documentation and works jointly with other members of the IT Development team to ensure documentation comprehensively covers all aspects of system configuration and data integrations.

  • Performs other job-related duties and responsibilities that may be assigned and/or the job description changed periodically to reflect changing organization needs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:    

Bachelor’s Degree in any field 

EXPERIENCE:   

  • Demonstrated (over 3 years) experience in information systems, to include the following: system design, implementation, troubleshooting, maintenance/application administration, end user support, and documentation/training.
  • Previous (over 1 year) experience administering card access systems.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and/or managing interfaces between information systems.
  • Familiarity with SQL relational databases

OTHER:               

  • May need to be available for evening and/or weekend hours.
  • Will need to lift and move technology equipment.
  • Some travel may be required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an information technology related field
  • Lenel certification
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and/or MySQL
  • Experience with Atrium, Infor, and/or Lenel OnGuard systems and related hardware
  • Experience working in Higher Education
