The Business Services Directorate (BSD) provides high-quality business services to support the Lab's research initiatives by participating in cross-functional teams with a focus on risk mitigation and cost management, which is a critical component to the Lab's success.  Led by the Chief Financial Officer, Brookhaven’s Business Services Directorate includes the Budget Office, Fiscal Services Division, Procurement & Property Management Division, Chief Financial Office, and the Business Operations Offices.  The Directorate manages a broad range of financial activities, including the planning and implementation of the Lab’s fiscal matters and its approximately $700 million annual budget.

The Business Services Directorate (BSD) has an opening for a Business Specialist position within the Director’s Office Business Office.  This individual will report to the Director’s Office Business Operations Manager.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide financial/budget support to the Director’s Office (DO) Business Managers.

  • Prepare and distribute monthly budget reports and other ad hoc financial reports as assigned.

  • Create journal vouchers/entries through PeopleSoft Financials with supporting documentation.

  • Responsible for contract administration, review and approval of invoices, pre-vouchers, miscellaneous payments, and travel through PeopleSoft Financials.

  • Prepare web requisitions and change orders, travel authorizations, and contract closeout requests for commitments as requested. 

  • Monitor commitments for Director’s Office projects.  Maintain signatory documentation for the Director’s Office.

  • Act as approving official for Counterintelligence Office and Stakeholder Relations Office credit card holders.

  • Act as Property Representative for the Director’s Office.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • BA or BS degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent experience based on 2:1 (experience:college) years, plus four (4) years of related work experience.

  • Knowledge of Office365, especially Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams.

  • Ability to create pivot tables and charts in Excel.

  • Knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning Systems (ERP) and running financial queries. 

  • Flexible team player with the ability to interact with staff at all levels to accomplish objectives and resolve issues.

  • Ability to establish positive working relationships at all levels.

  • Ability to prioritize and meet established deadlines.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

  • Must be self-motivated, resourceful, and organized, taking ownership of all assigned work.

  • Ability to concentrate on accuracy.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with PeopleSoft Financials and the ability to create queries and generate reports.

  • Knowledge of BNL policies, practices, and procedures.

  • Familiarity with Power Business Intelligence.

  • Familiarity with Workday.

Environmental, Health & Safety Requirements:

The ability to work at a computer/keyboard for extended periods is essential.

Compensation:

Brookhaven Laboratory is committed to providing fair, equitable, and competitive compensation. The full salary range for this position is $78,400 - $117,600 / year. Salary offers will be commensurate with the final candidate’s qualification, education, and experience and considered with the internal peer group.
