Job Summary:

The Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (SSPPS) is seeking a full-time Instructional Design Manager.  This position is responsible for the design, development, and evaluation of courses and instructional materials in a variety of learning contexts, including our entry-level program and our Distance Degrees and Programs. The focus is on promoting educational excellence by using state of the art methods and technology to create excellent learning experiences for pharmacy students. This position will collaborate with School of Pharmacy faculty and other instructional design staff on the design and development of learner-centered in-person, hybrid/blended, and online courses, including the use of assessment strategies to evaluate student learning, and the use of instructional technology to promote best practices in teaching and learning. This position will collaborate with administrators to ensure consistent learning experiences for students and to align program outcomes, course outcomes, and learning assessments to ensure evidence of student achievement of program outcomes. 

This position will be expected to identify and evaluate emerging technologies and trends in the delivery of instruction and make recommendations for implementation as appropriate as well as support projects and other responsibilities as assigned. As the manager of the Instructional Design Office, this position will lead the Office of Instructional Design, serve in a supervisor role to instructional design staff, liaison and collaborate with relevant campus-level partners, and report to the Associate Dean for Education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Function as the manager of the Instructional Design Office with responsibility for supervising office staff, collaborating with stakeholders and partners, and managing projects.
  • Assess level of instructional technology support needed by faculty and provide guidance and resources as needed.
  • Collaborate with SSPPS faculty and Instructional Design Office staff on all aspects of the instructional design process.
  • Oversee the development and design of Canvas templates; build online exams, ensure accuracy, proper proctoring and ensure adequate technical support to students.
  • Evaluate instructional strategies and assessments for proper design and alignment with course outcomes.
  • Explore and evaluate pedagogies, technologies, and software to support student learning outcomes.
  • Provide regular instructional design training and professional development for faculty and staff; provide training for students on learning management systems and proctoring software.

Work Location:

Hybrid – this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week on campus and as needed for additional in-person meetings and events.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in education, instructional design, communications, information technology, information science or a closely related field.
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.
  • Four (4) years of experience in instructional design or course development.
  • Experience serving in a supervisory role.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in education, instructional design, communications, information technology, information science or a closely related field.
  • Experience with public speaking or teaching.
  • Experience with various educational models (e.g., in person, remote, online, hybrid).
  • Experience in instructional design in a higher education setting.
  • Administrative knowledge and hands-on experience with media-development software applications.
  • Experience with client relationship management.

  • Highly professional demeanor.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to direct and influence colleagues of all levels.
  • Ability to work with diverse student populations.
  • Ability to plan and execute duties, activities, and responsibilities with little or no supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proven track record of meeting assigned goals.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and willingness to learn new technologies.
  • Ability to manage stress well and remain flexible in a changing, fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and interact effectively and cooperatively with team members.
  • Willingness to help others learn.
  • Commitment to professional development and staying current in new technologies, pedagogies, and models for learning and design.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established as $74,711 - $95,032.

The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
