Job Summary
The Business Operations Manager partners with the Assistant to the Dean and College Business Officer regarding fiscal and operational issues in the College of Engineering. This position also works closely with academic departments to provide financial, administrative and procedural oversight and guidance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Performs a variety of financial-related duties, including:
    • Reviewing & approving financial transactions.
    • Reviews data in Sahara prior to final approval.
    • Ensuring timely processing of documentation, transfers & corrections of budgets.
    • Managing departmental resources and procedures efficiently and effectively.
      • Monitoring expenses of GTAs and adjuncts and reviewing graduate assistant spreadsheets for the departments each semester for completeness and correct information.
    • Overseeing various academic unit financial functions and administrative functions of the departmental offices to provide insight and process improvements.
    • Maintaining and overseeing an effective and efficient system of internal controls and procedures for academic departments.
  • Participates in the annual budget process for the College of Engineering, including departmental support and review, verifying salary spreadsheets, and providing other guidance to departments needed.
  • Confirms accuracy in the new fiscal year budget and assists with necessary transfers.
  • Monitors budgets monthly to identify problems and suggest corrections.
  • Manages, trains and indirectly supervises the financial and administrative teams in select departments within the College of Engineering in implementing best practices for processes.
  • Works closely with staff to produce reliable and accurate financial information.
  • Performs special projects and produces various ad hoc reports.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree with two (2) years of supervisor experience or equivalent relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in business or accounting.
  • Previous work in higher education.
  • Knowledge of Word, Excel, MyMav and UTShare.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
  • Knowledge of data processing and operation of standard office equipment capabilities including personal computers.
