Position Summary

Under limited supervision, the Business Manager has a broad range of duties associated with the proper operation and effective and efficient functioning of the budgetary and purchasing aspects of the department. This position manages and executes administrative, project, and executive support activities associated with the department. Provides direct support to the department principal as well as specialist administrative services in the areas of fiscal management, public/community relations, support to CNM community, collaborate with divisions around campus to coordinate and refine practices, general business administration and project management.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • May supervises administrative staff, which includes prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff is trained; ensuring employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment; and, making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.
  • Analyzes ad-hoc monthly, quarterly, and annual department budgeting and accounting reports to effectively maintain and manage expenditures.
  • Provides advice and technical assistance with cost analysis, fiscal allocation, and budget preparation.
  • Summarizes budgets and submits recommendations for the approval or disapproval of funds requests at the departmental level.
  • Reviews operating budgets to analyze trends affecting budgetary needs.
  • Consults with leadership to ensure that budget adjustments are made in accordance with program changes.
  • Performs cost-benefit analyses to compare operating programs, reviews financial requests, or explores alternative financing methods. Interprets budget directives and establishes internal policies and procedures to ensure directives are carried out effectively.
  • Coordinates financial aspects of contract and/or grant administration, as appropriate to the organization, including budget development, proposal preparation and/or negotiation, compliance, and external liaison with funding sources and/or contracting agencies.
  • Prepares reports of disbursements, special analyses, and information reports for management; presents recommendations for changes and/or improvements, monetary control, and adherence to budgets.
  • Manages the daily financial activities of the enterprise, which include budget preparation and control, accounting, purchasing, and business planning and management; ensures compliance with College policies and procedures, state, and federal regulations.
  • Coordinates, designs, and implements internal financial reporting systems, financial controls, and management information systems in coordination with the automated financial reporting systems of the College.
  • Collaborate with divisions across the College to refine processes.
  • Tracking of projects, and providing reporting on large department initiatives.
  • Maintain records for department initiatives and assist with completion of initiatives as directed by supervisor.
  • Assist with onboarding efforts of various programs to support students, faculty and staff at CNM.
  • Participates in the development of business management strategies, and acts as a point of consulting expertise to department leadership in the effective development of business-related programs and initiatives.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Economics, Accounting, Finance, or related field and five (5) years of related experience

Preferences:
  • 2 years experience with systems including WorkDay, Salesforce and databases.
  • Prior experience with grants, high education budgets and/or state and/or federal funding streams.
  • Experience with contract administration in the public sector including in higher education institutions.
