Overview

The Department of Public Safetyâ™s (DPS) mission is to enhance the living, learning, and working experience at Princeton University by protecting life, maintaining order, and safeguarding property.

Under the direction of the Assistant Vice President of the Department of Public Service, the Business IT Support Manager is responsible for substantial systems, projects, and other work covering a wide range of technology, including, but not limited to, Public Safety IT services and public safety/police telecommunications and related infrastructures. As the business support manager for several critical Public Safety systems, this role is responsible for business technology management, oversight of service analytics, and multiple functional system requirements (training, user acceptance testing, business stakeholder management, etc.).

Duties include but are not limited to maintenance of user accounts, monitoring service levels, ensuring that the technology deployed supports robust continuity of operations, ensuring systems and network security, working with all members of the department to ensure users are fully trained and comfortable with critical public safety technology, development, and management of budgets for vendors, support organizations, materials, services, and other necessary expenditures, as well as preparing and presenting appropriations to secure funding for upgrades or new initiatives.


Responsibilities

ADMINISTRATION & REPORTING â“ 25%

Serve as the strategic technology advisor to the Assistant Vice President of the Department of Public Service. Provide strategy, oversight, and business application support for multiple critical public safety systems; serve as the main point of contact for technical aspects of system enhancements; interface with OIT Critical Infrastructure partners and external public safety agencies to develop business roadmaps and infrastructure upgrades; test new applications, corrects errors, monitor systems for abnormalities, and make necessary modications to applications; maintain technical certications relevant to current IT trends in operating systems, IT security, budget, and project management.

COMPUTING SUPPORT â“ 20%

Ensure efcient and effective support of departmental desktops, laptops, tablets, smartphones, printers, projectors, and other electronic equipment. Develop and maintain departmental procedures and budget for the systems and associated hardware. Guide DPS staff on computing purchases (hardware, software, mobile technology, and other applications). Authorize IT equipment to be sent to Princeton Resource Recovery (or alternate disposal means). Ensure University IT management processes for asset management, change management, and incident management are in place and followed. Perform research and analysis necessary for developing appropriate recommendations regarding hardware/software congurations, policy standards, user needs, and capabilities/limitations of hardware and software. Manage back-ups, system life cycles, software versioning, and technology assets.

SYSTEM APPLICATION SUPPORT â“ 15%

Provide business ownership of critical life safety applications such as computer-aided dispatch and records management systems, telephone and radio voice recording systems, and video monitoring and recording systems. Support highly specialized and sensitive software applications (such as FBI National Crime Information System/NJ Criminal Justice Information System and related county systems). Handle essential account maintenance, especially systems associated with user management. Understand external and internal compliance requirements for public safety systems and set up departmental processes to meet those requirements. Verify the integrity and availability of system services and critical functions.

OFFICE PRODUCTIVITY â“ 15%

Coordinate maintenance and support activities with other departments on campus and external vendors. Establish contracts and oversee application vendor adherence. Provide technical direction and assistance to vendors in application installation, upgrades, diagnostic procedures, troubleshooting, servicing, and acceptance testing. Write administrative functions required to support operations. Ensure appropriate user documentation is in place for the systems. Responsible for ensuring applications are regularly maintained and upgraded as necessary. Communicate all OIT alerts and best practices to staff.

TRAINING AND LIAISON SERVICES â“ 15%

Provide training and oversight to system end users on the capabilities and operations of the systems. Act as liaison to OIT for all technical issues and projects. Utilize best management practices to identify, review, track, and control project milestones and deliverables and communicate status with end-users and stakeholders. Assist in developing and adhering to department standards, policies, and operating procedures. Troubleshoot and resolve end-user application questions and problems. Leverage training opportunities provided by the SCAD/DCS program. Represent DPS at monthly SCAD/DCS and OIT security meetings. Responsible for coordinating requirements, testing, and end-user rollout of system updates or modications.

DATA AND WEB MANAGEMENT â“ 10%

Develop and support in-house database systems, inventory systems, and building technology infrastructure. Verify the integrity and availability of system services and key processes. Authorize and grant access to specic technology systems and applications. Play an integral role in implementing new or improved technology for DPS systems.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in information technology or a related eld.
  • 5-7 years experience performing business ownership duties for diverse IT services, including business technology strategy, oversight, and multiple functional system requirements (training, user acceptance testing, business stakeholder management, )
  • Proven leadership for solutions using
  • Ability to prioritize, delegate, and manage multiple competing goals and
  • Exceptional communication skills, project management skills, & ability to speak to and generate documentation for a broad range of constituents.
  • Certications in Microsoft and Apple products; strong experience in MS Windows and Apple hardware/software.
  • Must know about data protection, programming and scripting, IT security operating systems, backup systems, rewalls, and security protocols.
  • Must have experience in training technical and non-technical end
  • Must have the ability to work independently and to manage multiple priorities
  • Must have the ability to keep abreast of new technology, such as software and hardware
  • Must be available 24/7 by mobile device and respond in person appropriately to emergencies should they occur.
  • Must know pertinent federal, state, and local computer safety and security
  • Must be physically able to lift and move various machines and equipment, including computers and inspection equipment, radio, telephone, , and may be required to climb ladders.
  • Must lift up to 50 , twist, bend, and work in awkward positions.
  • Must successfully pass a comprehensive criminal background check (via ngerprints).
