Business Development and Marketing Associate

Updated: 3 months ago
Location: Maryland Line, MARYLAND

Under the general direction of the Executive Director of Hire Hopkins, we are seeking a Business Development and Marketing Associate who will serve as the first line of marketing and communication to our FLI-focused (first-generation and/or limited income) employer partners, fielding both inbound requests and driving outbound campaigns.

Hire Hopkins is a remote-first, design-thinking office at Johns Hopkins University. We’re focused on partnering with employers from various industries to bring recruitment opportunities for students at all nine academic divisions of Johns Hopkins University. Our success means bringing awesome jobs and internships to our talented and qualified students and equally, ensuring employers are getting the pipelines of talent they need from JHU.

At its core, this is a marketing and admin position that will require, comfort with finding and reaching out to new employer contacts (based on lists of data from our FLI students’ requests) to share more about hiring students from Hopkins. Perfect follow-through in both email and CRM-tracking. Impeccable communication and copywriting skills (for marketing and getting new FLI-focused employers on board)

These skills will be vital as we work with our existing employer partners and/or build new partnerships with new organizations for FLI student employment.

Successful candidates will feel confident writing email or message drafts, reaching out to individuals on LinkedIn to share more about Hopkins, and tracking every interaction in our CRM –with impeccable follow-through on many tiny tasks.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Independently manage and exercise discretion regarding the highly visible Hire Hopkins email inbox as a customer service professional, fielding and deciding next steps for many inbound requests, acting as a front door for hiring partners into Hopkins before setting them up for a conversation with one of our collaborators.
  • Creating employer contact lists within our CRM using prospecting tools like Lusha.
  • Designing, writing, and sending multi-step outbound LinkedIn messaging and email campaigns to chosen contacts from various companies and organizations. Manage those campaigns to optimize performance (using A/B testing, for example) and ultimately increase conversion.
  • Reply to messages from employers within 24 hours Monday-Friday.
  • Write and distribute marketing/advertising blurbs for internal stakeholders (university career centers, other departments, student clubs, faculty, and operational partners) to advertise roles and programs to students.
  • Near-perfect follow-through on copious small tasks, such as uploading new employers or new jobs to our databases. Administrative work that aids the activities of our office.
  • Editing and distributing surveys to gather feedback from hiring partners or students.
  • Willingness and ability to travel if necessary.

Who Might Thrive in this Role

  • This is a “startup” type operation culturally with the perks of a larger organization’s resources and benefits. That can be a bit of a paradox, so we’re looking for someone who can independently resolve problems while maintaining a sense of humor and a solution-oriented, positive “can-do” attitude.
  • You’ll thrive in this role if you’re an excellent communicator, you’re completely comfortable working autonomously and on your own, and you’re comfortable wearing multiple hats, and juggling a variety of responsibilities.
  • Lastly, to scale our impact across the institution (and with employers all over the world,) we expect that our teams can work from anywhere, and therefore a Hire Hopkins team member enjoys working remotely and can make themselves available from 9 am-5 pm E.S.T.

Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • A winning “can-do” attitude.
  • Strong problem-solving, extremely organized, impeccable task management, and follow-up skills. You’re able to get buy-in by never missing a follow-up item.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal skills. Great listener, and a strong outliner/organizer, with the ability to interact with people at all levels (from staff members to C-suite executives). You’re comfortable both drafting a marketing blurb and preparing the Executive Director for making a 20-minute presentation to a C-suite audience.
  • Must be able to demonstrate effective time management skills and the ability to work independently with minimal day-to-day supervision, while delivering on-target results.
  • Commitment to the use of information technology and the management of database systems.
  • Enthusiasm for the clarity that metrics bring. An obsession for analyzing, measuring, and documenting results. And then iterating based on that!

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field.
  • Two years related experience.
  • Advanced degree may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One to two plus years of experience in start-ups, small business, or non-profits.
