Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) in the A. James Clark School of Engineering at the University of Maryland, College Park is seeking a Business Coordinator who will be directly responsible for ECE departmental business activities in support of the Department’s contracts with the Laboratory for Physical Sciences. This includes monitoring expenditures, reconciling monthly open requisitions, generating monthly CAP reports, and managing inventory. This position requires the highest level of confidentiality, attention to detail and deadlines, and professional interaction as a liaison between ECE, the Sponsor, and UMD central offices. The Business Coordinator will be responsible for the management of post-award procurement activities and will work closely with the financial manager of the portfolio of all LPS awards. A successful candidate must be enthusiastic, positive, detail-oriented, self-motivated, and have a demonstrable ability to take initiative.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of experience required.

Experience:
  • 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in a combination of procurement, inventory control, and financial reporting, preferably in a University setting.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Excellent customer service skills required including effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and must be able to exercise good judgment.
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to organize and execute multiple assignments under specific time constraints.
  • Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to be a team player is essential.
  • Reliable transportation to go between campus and off-site lab facility 1-2 times per week.
Preferences:
Preferences:
  • Experience with BA4 (Priority Software) and other university systems (WorkDay, KFS, Concur) and general financial programs.
  • Knowledge of UMD policies and procedures in the areas of finance, purchasing, procurement, and inventory.

Physical Demands
  • Mostly sedentary work performed in an office environment requiring the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards for extended times.
