The Business Analyst Consultant supports continuous improvement of Graduate School business processes by identifying and implementing solutions that enhance technological capabilities and streamline end-to-end business processes. This includes all aspects of solution design, from business process analysis, configuration, testing and implementation across Graduate School business areas. This position is for a fixed three-year term.


The Business Analyst Consultant contributes to the creation of deliverables of the highest quality and presents leading practice solutions for the Graduate School and Ohio State. The Business Analyst Consultant will maintain breadth of knowledge on the Graduate School operations and the applications that support the processes. This includes leadership for the deployment of AI for enhancing business capabilities.


The Business Analyst Consultant reports directly to the Director of Operations Strategy and Innovation (OSI) in the Graduate School. This position supports the objectives of the OSI team, documents processes and requirements, performs system configuration, coordinates plans and execute testing efforts, and uses a variety of project management tools to track and report status and progress. This person will work closely with the Office of Technology and Digital Innovation, other business owners, and end users. The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator, critical thinker, motivated with a positive attitude, and able to independently work on and balance priorities for multiple initiatives.

Duties/Responsibilities

40% - Leads and performs analysis (scope/planning), architect (design), development/unit testing, testing, and implementation phases of the software development life cycle for cross-functional processes that support specific functional student workstream, as well as integrating systems that support the end-to-end business process. Facilitates and participates in workgroup sessions and interviews/meetings with end users and business area sponsors to identify and gather requirements for processes that cross multiple areas of functionality. Maintains deep knowledge of business processes and tools/applications used to support processes.

25% - Contributes to the creation of deliverables to ensure that they are of highest quality and presents streamlined processes and use of leading practice business processes/system configurations for the Graduate School. Documents business processes, process improvements, and business requirements; communicates changes and facilitates implementation of process redesign; works closely with end users to problem solve and troubleshoot process issues; configures system(s) according to approved designs; conducts/facilitates system tests; follows system change process procedures to promote changes; and transfers knowledge for training materials.

25% - Carries out procedures to ensure that all application systems, products, and services meet minimum organization standards and end-user requirements; tests applications to ensure proper operation and freedom from defects. Documents and works to resolve all problems. Reports progress on problem resolution to management. Devises improvements to current procedures and develops models of possible future configurations. Performs workflow analysis and recommends quality improvements. Leads in the development, publishing, and implementation of test plans.

10% - Provides knowledge transfer to home offices to support end-user training on business applications to ensure understanding of functionality; reviews technical and end-user training manuals, policies and procedures.

Education/Experience

Required: Bachelor's degree in related field or combination of equivalent experience and education; 4 years of relevant experience required; Knowledge of system change implementation including identifying and documenting business processes, requirements, solutions testing, and implementation; Demonstrated ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects and tasks; Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and professionally with employees, peers, executive leadership, customers, vendors, technical team members and others; Knowledge of Higher Education Student business processes required.

Desired: Master's degree in related field; Demonstrated comprehensive experience with functional specific business processes and functions; Experience with complex, large-scale ERP, preferably PeopleSoft Campus Solutions; Experience with SQL coding and access database management.


Additional Information:

The targeted hourly range for this position is $73,100 - $97,500.
